Violin Shop Tampa is the highest-rated orchestral string instrument shop in the United States, serving the Tampa Bay area and beyond for over a decade. We specialize in fine violins, violas, cellos, and basses for musicians of all levels—from beginners to professionals. Our team is passionate about music, craftsmanship, and providing personalized service that helps each customer feel confident and supported on their musical journey.

Position Summary:

We are looking for a dependable, enthusiastic Part-Time Sales Associate to join and expand our team. The ideal candidate has a background in music with a degree in music performance, music education, or a related field—along with prior experience in customer service or retail. This position requires strong communication skills, punctuality, and a collaborative, team-first attitude. You'll be helping customers select instruments, assisting with rentals and repairs, and supporting our day-to-day shop operations. Beyond qualifications, we’re seeking someone who is a great cultural fit—positive, team-oriented, and genuinely passionate about supporting musicians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Warmly greet and assist customers with instrument purchases, rentals, accessories, and repairs
  • Provide knowledgeable recommendations based on customers’ needs and experience level
  • Ability to demonstrate and record instruments in store and for our online presence
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in person, by phone, and via email
  • Create and manage employee schedule
  • Use our POS system to process sales, rentals, returns, and repairs
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming retail space
  • Restock shelves, receive new inventory, and help with inventory tracking
  • Collaborate with team members and support a positive, customer-first culture
  • Follow company procedures for safety, cleanliness, and product handling
  • Participate in occasional off-site outreach (e.g., school visits, events)

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field. Degrees in Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass performance will receive preferred consideration.
  • Experience in retail, sales, or customer service preferred
  • Exceptional communication ability (Bilingual is preferred)
  • Must be punctual, dependable, and able to work independently
  • Positive attitude with a desire to serve musicians of all ages and levels
  • Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with colleagues
  • Must be available to work Saturdays
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering excellent service
  • Familiarity with string instruments (violin, viola, cello, or bass) strongly preferred
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds (instruments, boxes, etc.)
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move throughout the shop for extended periods
  • Occasional bending, reaching, and climbing ladders to retrieve merchandise
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient with computers, including typing, email, and basic troubleshooting
  • Comfortable using point-of-sale (POS) systems, online scheduling tools, and inventory management software
  • Able to navigate cloud-based platforms such as Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail)
  • Willingness to learn new tools and systems used for communication, marketing, and e-commerce
  • Strong attention to detail when entering customer and instrument data
