Title:                                          Music Assistant - Orchestra              
Department:                             Music Department
Immediate Supervisor:           Orchestra Director
Job Goal:  The Orchestra Assistant is responsible for instructional assistance at the designated Middle School/High School.  This includes:  tuning instruments, photocopy assistance, moving equipment, conducting rehearsals, individual help for students, assistance with all fund-raising activities, assistance with all contests and concerts, general "errand" running and help with the orchestra council activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.      Instructional work during orchestra class time.
2.      Assistance with paperwork.
3.      Tuning and minor instrument repair.
4.      Equipment moving (chairs, stands, etc.).
5.      Errand running and really "odd jobs".
6.      Early rehearsals Orchestra 7:00 a.m.
7.      Sectional rehearsals for orchestra contests, solo/ensemble contests, and auditions for NCHO and ALL-OMEA.
8.      Booster Club meetings (2nd Thursday of every month).
9.      String Staff meetings every Monday.
10.     Numerous meetings during the school year; Open House; Auditions;Early rehersals; Music festivals; Contests; etc.
11.     Inventory equipment.
12.     Other duties may be assigned.    
Length of Contract: One hundred seventy-five (175) contract days. 
Salary commensurate with experience on the negotiated agreement of the Support Employees of Edmond (SEE).
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Orchestra Director in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policies, state law, and the negotiated agreement with the Support Employees of Edmond (SEE).

None.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
At least two years of college.  Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Instrumental music string instrument specialist.
Knowledge of scoring instruments is critical.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
None required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to plan budgets and use the mathematical skills required to do so.  Maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of the position.
REASONING SKILLS:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions.  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.  Ability to organize and chair or facilitate committees and meetings.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Student teaching or a similar teaching experience would be helpful.  Experience needed in working with middle and high school students in a school setting.  Must be able to tune and do minor repairs on string instruments, conduct section rehearsals, supervise students in a non-rehearsal setting, do some clerical work, must be fair-minded and encouraging to the students.
