Job description

The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is seeking a dedicated Lawn Care Technician to support the landscaping and grounds maintenance needs of our campus community. This role is an integral part of a collaborative team committed to keeping the campus safe, clean, and visually appealing year-round. The team works in a variety of weather conditions and performs essential maintenance tasks, including the removal of debris, snow, and ice, to ensure the safety of students, employees, and visitors throughout the campus.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the existing lawns by keeping them presentable to campus and community.
  • Pull weeds from flowerbeds and sidewalks.
  • Prune trees, shrubs, and hedges.
  • Plant new flowers, bushes, plants, and decorative shrubs.
  • Rake fallen leaves and remove debris.
  • Keep pedestrian areas removed of snow and ice.
  • Properly store and handle all equipment, tools, sprinklers, fertilizer, etc.
  • Oversee maintenance repairs to equipment, landscape structures, and hardscape walkways.
  • Additional assistance moving furniture, setting up for events, or processing recyclables may be required.
  • Other duties assigned.

Education/Skill Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED, trade or technical school diploma or degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience in landscaping or ground keeping is preferred.
  • Must have operational knowledge of lawn maintenance equipment such as lawnmowers, string trimmers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, and chainsaws.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
