Job description

 GPC Solar / BESS / DERs - I&C Technician - South Region

Position Overview:

The purpose of this position is to provide O&M support for GPC R2Gen - Solar / BESS / DERs facilities in the Western area of the South Georgia Region. (Ft. Benning [Ft Mitchell, AL] & Shiloh, GA)

Note: The successful candidate should expect to have primary responsibilities in the southern half of the state but could be asked to provide support elsewhere if needed.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of utility-scale PV solar plants, distributive energy resources, and battery energy storage facilities across the state of Georgia. Duties include both monitoring and operation of the assets through SCADA, as well as maintenance activities such as inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of AC and DC systems.  Equipment examples include but are not limited to inverters, PV modules, combiner boxes, battery energy storage systems, SCADA systems, plant controllers, metering systems, transformers, switchgear, and RICE generators.  The successful candidate will work routinely with 600v-1500v DC systems and will need to be familiar with medium-voltage AC systems up to 34.5KV. The candidate will be responsible for all site compliance including contractor administration, environmental, health, and safety.  All technicians in this role are required to facilitate and execute LOTO using Generation SafeTK.  The successful candidates will use IBM Maximo for planning work, executing work, documenting work, managing inventory, and tracking plant equipment issues. 

Typical work schedules for this position include 5/8s or 4/10s, however, schedules may be adjusted to suit the needs of the business.  Must be available for night, weekend, holiday work and on call as required. This may include storm duty as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of industrial or power plant facility operations and maintenance
  • Demonstrate knowledge in electrical and mechanical safety
  • Demonstrate the understanding of industrial safety practices such as LOTO, switching, maintenance processes, and basic industrial compliance obligations.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding electrical schematics and prints.
  • Proficient with DC systems and equipment
  • Fundamental understanding of medium & high voltage AC systems and equipment up to 34.5KV
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Self-directed, responsible, and accountable
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Physical fitness for demanding tasks

Responsibilities:

  • Travel to and from site locations around the region or state as needed
  • Or - may be assigned to one site
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, & scheduling of site maintenance activities and projects
  • Execution of site operations and maintenance activities and projects
  • Troubleshoot and repair plant equipment
  • Site compliance facilitator, and executer (Environmental, Health, and Safety) 
  • Site contractor compliance facilitator, and executer
  • Site - LOTO administrator, facilitator, and executer
  • Maximo User - PMs, CMs, CDs, Inventory, PRs, POs, and record keeping
  • Participate in team meetings (Morning Meetings, Planning Meetings, Safety Meetings, etc)
  • Participate and complete all assigned training
  • Effectively communicate with Team Leader and Team Members

Position Requirements and Preferences

  • Required - The successful candidate will be required to live in or near the West Georgia region in a location suitable for business needs (Within one hour drive of both Fort Benning and Shiloh)

  • Required - EEI TECH test qualified
  • Required - An approved two-year technical degree from a certified technical institution or military equivalent
  • Required - Must be available for extended work hours including nights and weekends
  • Required - Must be available for call out to support operational needs
  • Required - Must be flexible, forward-thinking, and strategic minded
  • Required - Self-motivated, customer-focused, and can work alone or in a team
  • Required - Must be an effective team player with a positive attitude towards work.
  • Preferred - Work experience in Solar or BESS plant maintenance and operations
