What is a stress nurse practitioner?

Stress Nurse Practitioners are advanced practice registered nurses who specialize in assessing and managing patients undergoing cardiac stress testing. They monitor patients' vital signs, administer medications, and interpret test results to help diagnose heart conditions. These practitioners collaborate closely with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective testing. Their expertise is essential for detecting cardiovascular problems and guiding patient care.

What are the typical responsibilities of a stress nurse practitioner during a cardiac stress test procedure?

A Stress Nurse Practitioner plays a key role in preparing patients for cardiac stress tests, which includes reviewing medical histories, explaining the procedure, and ensuring patient safety throughout. During the test, they closely monitor vital signs, administer medications when necessary, and collaborate with cardiologists to interpret results. Afterward, they provide post-test care instructions and answer patient questions. This role requires strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to respond quickly to any signs of distress.
