We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Stress Analyst to join our JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.

If selected you will:

  • Support structural analysis tasks supporting the our NASA/JSC customer in the Structures Branch
  • Review and understand structural requirements on Flight Hardware, Ground Support Equipment, and Test Support EquipmentUse stress analysis experience to perform classical hand calculations for stress analysis and determine Margins of Safety
  • Create Finite element models using PATRAN, FEMAP, or more advanced solutions in MSC/MARC
  • Apply loads and boundary conditions to Finite Element Models, post-process results.
  • Calculate Margins of Safety for parts and assemblies
  • Prepare structural analysis reports
  • Collaborate with other engineers to find resolutions to technical issues
  • Assess parts and Assemblies for Fracture Control per NASA-STD-5019
  • Assess Fastener/Joint assemblies per NASA-STD-5020
  • Be familiar with NASA-STD-5001, NASA-STD-5005, and other relevant NASA standards
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 1 year of experience in the field or in a related area
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Familiarity with desktop software applications, MS Office is required. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience performing structural analysis on NASA spaceflight hardware
  • Previous Experience using the Finite Elements Anlayis Tools listed in the job descriptionPrevious Experience or familiarity with NASGRO
