Job description

Position Summary

Brooklyn Cloth is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Assistant Designer to join our team. This role will support the design and development of trend-driven apparel collections from initial concept through production. The ideal candidate is passionate about streetwear and contemporary fashion, thrives in a collaborative environment, and has a strong understanding of garment construction, fabrications, and market trends.

Working closely with Senior Designers, Product Development, Technical Design, Merchandising, and Production, the Assistant Designer will help create commercially successful products that align with the Brooklyn Cloth brand aesthetic while meeting customer and business objectives.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of seasonal men's cut & sew apparel collections, including tops, bottoms, fleece, outerwear, and fashion basics.
  • Research fashion, streetwear, cultural, and color trends to support seasonal concept development.
  • Create technical flats, garment sketches, and CAD artwork using Adobe Illustrator.
  • Develop presentation boards, color palettes, fabric direction, and seasonal design concepts.
  • Assist in preparing complete design packages and technical documentation for Product Development and overseas vendors.
  • Partner with Product Development and overseas factories throughout the sample development process.
  • Review prototypes and production samples to ensure design intent, fit, construction, and quality standards are achieved.
  • Participate in fit sessions by documenting comments and updating design revisions.
  • Source and organize fabrics, trims, washes, and garment inspiration.
  • Maintain accurate design files, seasonal archives, and line sheets.
  • Support the Design team in preparing customer presentations and internal meetings.
  • Ensure all assigned projects are completed according to seasonal calendars and production deadlines.
  • Stay informed on emerging fashion trends, competitive brands, consumer preferences, and new fabric innovations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Merchandising, Sales, Technical Design, Sourcing, and Production to bring products to market successfully.
  • Assist with additional design projects and departmental needs as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
  • 1โ€“3 years of apparel design experience or relevant internship experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, fabrications, washes, and apparel manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to create detailed technical flats and garment specifications.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for streetwear, contemporary fashion, and evolving market trends.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing men's sportswear or streetwear.
  • Experience working with overseas factories and product development calendars.
  • Understanding of garment washes, dye techniques, graphics, and trim development.
