Title: Laborer - Street Maintenance
Status: Full-time
Hourly Rate: $22.15
Our full-time status is a 35-hour work week with occasional opportunity for overtime.
Description

Under the Department of Public Works (DPW) the Full-time Street Laborer position is integral part of a team that is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of over 1700 lane miles of road, 100's of acres or right-of-way (ROW), and snow removal for all City streets and HSE school parking lots. Besides the maintenance needed to keep streets and ROW at optimum standards, Fishers Street Maintenance has pioneered some of the most innovative maintenance techniques in the state. Other important responsibilities of the position include working at up to 100 special events held in the community (ex. concerts, 5K runs, holiday events, etc.). Fishers DPW Street Maintenance is the ideal place for someone in the pavement maintenance industry who wants to experience all aspects of maintenance.
Fishers DPW is the only municipal public works department in Indiana to hold the American Public Works Association (APWA) Certification which recognizes agencies that meet compliance with the recommended management practices set forth in the Public Works Management Practices Manual.

  • Patches/maintains roads
  • Running and operating paving crews/equipment
  • Concrete infrastructure repairs (street and sidewalks)
  • Assists in snow removal
  • Mowing and landscape maintenance
  • Replaces/repairs signage
  • Road stripping
  • Cleans equipment and shop
  • Use of smartphone/tablets to complete work orders via computerized work order management system
  • Coordinates job assignments with Senior Laborers/Foremen
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • Valid drivers license and ability to be insured to drive a city vehicle required. This includes at least 3 years of experience driving not including permit time;
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers' License within six months of employment (training provided by the City of Fishers);
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 lbs;
  • Ability to climb ladders and maintain balance;
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a variety of people;
  • Able to handle several projects at the same time in adverse conditions;
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays due to weather events and/or business needs.
