Manager, Enterprise Identity and Data Protection

QTS Realty Trust, Inc.

Suwanee, GA • On-site

Full-time

Job description

Who You Are: (Job Summary)
  • The Manager, Enterprise Identity and Data Protection is a people-first engineering leader accountable for the enterprise identity and data protection portfolio within QTS Technology Engineering & Operations, enterprise identity and access management (IAM), including enterprise identity governance & administration, and data loss prevention (DLP). This role is responsible for turning executive strategy into an executable roadmap, developing solutions for complex operational issues and developing a team of identity/access management and data loss prevention engineers.

What You Will Do: (Job Responsibilities)
  • Partner with the Director, Enterprise Technology on multi-year planning, capability roadmaps, and investment cases for the identity and data protection portfolio.
  • Translate enterprise technology strategy and executive priorities into a clear, sequenced roadmap of initiatives, milestones, and operational commitments.
  • Develop and manage the operating budget, licensing, vendor spend, professional services, and headcount; and defend requests with clear business rationale.
  • Anticipate how enterprise growth, acquisitions, and platform changes affect the scale and shape of the team's work, and plan capacity proactively rather than reactively.
  • Provide management oversight for enterprise IAM; lifecycle provisioning and deprovisioning, role and entitlement design, access certification campaigns, privileged access, single sign-on, and MFA.
  • Provide management oversight for the enterprise DLP program; policy design, classification and labeling strategy, alert triage, and continuous tuning to reduce noise while improving coverage.
  • Define, publish, and manage service levels and operational metrics for each domain, and use that data to drive prioritization conversations with stakeholders.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a distributed team of IAM engineers and a DLP engineer; serve as the primary advocate for their growth, engagement, and career progression.
  • Oversee and apply structured improvement methods, process mapping, value stream analysis, and root cause analysis, to solve the underlying problem rather than the presenting symptom.
  • Reduce manual toil through automation, workflow redesign, and platform consolidation, and measure the resulting gains in cycle time, quality, and team capacity.
  • Establish and maintain documentation, runbooks, and standard operating procedures that make the team's work repeatable, auditable, and transferable.
  • Lead post-incident and post-project reviews that produce specific, assigned, and tracked corrective actions.
  • Present the team's work to senior leadership through clear written and verbal communication, tailoring depth and framing to the audience without diluting substance.
  • Support internal and external audit, attestation, and customer-assurance activities (e.g., SOC 2, ISO/IEC 27001, PCI DSS, HITRUST) by ensuring control evidence within the portfolio is accurate, complete, and readily producible.
  • Manage strategic vendor and service-partner relationships, holding them accountable to contractual commitments, roadmap alignment, and delivery quality.

What You Will Need to Be Successful: (Required Qualifications, Education, Experience, Certifications)
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, information systems, engineering, business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience: 7 or more years of progressive experience in enterprise technology, technology governance, or risk and controls within a mid-to-large enterprise, including 3 or more years directly leading technical teams (hiring, performance management, coaching, and career development).
  • Distributed team leadership: Demonstrated success leading a distributed or multi-site team, with proven approaches to maintaining engagement, alignment, and accountability across locations and time zones.
  • Strategy translation: Demonstrated experience translating executive strategy into an executable roadmap and communicating progress, tradeoffs, and risk to senior leadership.
  • Identity & Access Management: Working knowledge of enterprise IAM concepts and platforms sufficient to guide technical decisions, evaluate designs, and coach engineers.
  • Data protection: Working knowledge of data loss prevention and data classification concepts and platforms sufficient to guide technical decisions, evaluate designs, and coach engineers.
  • Controlled environment: Experience operating within an audited control environment, including evidence collection, control testing, and remediation of findings.
  • Continuous improvement: Experience applying structured methods (process mapping and formal root cause analysis) to operational problems.
  • Business management: Experience managing vendor relationships, licensing, and an operating budget.

Nice to Have: (Preferred Qualifications, Education, Experience, Certifications)
  • Experience in a data center, critical-infrastructure, hyperscale, colocation, or another high-availability operating environment.
  • Experience within a private-equity-owned or high-growth organization, including comfort operating with pace, ambiguity, and evolving priorities.
  • Experience standing up a new function, program, or team capability from an early or undefined state.
  • Experience supporting SOC 2, ISO/IEC 27001, PCI DSS, HITRUST, or SOX ITGC audit cycles.
  • Experience leading an IGA platform selection and migration; familiarity with identity governance platforms such as SailPoint, Saviynt, Okta, or Microsoft Entra ID Governance, and access-intelligence tooling such as Veza.
  • Experience with data protection and classification tooling such as Microsoft Purview, Zscaler, or Netskope.
  • Familiarity operating a Microsoft-first identity and data protection stack (Microsoft Entra, Intune, Purview) and ServiceNow-based workflow.
  • Experience leading through organizational change, including restructuring, integration, or significant scaling of a team.
  • Preferred Education: Master's degree in business administration, Information Systems, Technology Management, or a related field.
  • Relevant credential(s) in technology leadership, governance and controls, process improvement, or identity-platform administration: (i.e., PMP; Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt; ITIL 4 Foundation or higher; CRISC; CGEIT; and vendor identity-platform certifications).

Other Key Skills: (KSAs)
  • Leadership, culture & performance development.
  • Knowledge & understanding of Strategic & Operational realities, outcome-based metrics; and workforce forecasting.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication adapted to all levels; Influences and drives outcomes without direct authority; facilitates groups toward decision and commitment; and presents complex technical and risk topics in plain business language.
  • Problem solving & continuous improvement: strong analytical and critical thinking with the discipline to define the problem before solving it.
  • Fluent in process mapping, value stream analysis, and root cause techniques (Five Whys, fishbone, fault tree); and addresses systemic patterns rather than one-off symptoms.
