Overview

The Logistics Manager is responsible for managing, controlling, and directing the entire warehouse and shipping functions.

Job Category: Salary Exempt

Department: Manufacturing

Reports To: Sr. Manager Inventory Planning

Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm, additional hours as needed.

Responsibilities

Meets departmental KPI's and goals.

Assists in setting strategic direction for Warehouse and Shipping initiatives.

Establishes standard operation practices.

Assists in developing yearly operational budget and analyzes budget variances.

Provides strategic leadership for issues affecting the department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in warehouse/shipping functions.

Monitor and make improvements where necessary on warehouse/shipping dept. performance.

Develop proactive strategies to anticipate and mitigate issues and risks with respect to shipping orders accurately and on time.

Perform all business operations including reviewing the department's actual vs. budget, and employee management, training, and staffing.

Represent company in negotiating freight costs with carriers.

Develop and implement warehouse/shipping work instructions, policies, and procedures.

Review shipping claims and negotiate with freight carriers.

Handle employee complaints, settle disputes, and resolve grievances and conflicts.

Hold regular meetings with department staff.

Identify staffing needs, interview, hire and train staff and maintain a steady stream of qualified candidates.

Provide guidance, training and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance on a frequent basis.

Lead by example, evaluate departmental workload requirements and stay late when needed.

Manage inventory maintenance, stock locations etc.

Enforce housekeeping standards

Manage, develop and monitor the progress of personnel

Identify warehouse training requirements and train where needed

Conduct employee performance reviews

Manage personnel scheduling of work load, breaks, lunches and vacations

Identify and rectify safety concerns

Other duties as needed

Qualifications

Working Conditions: This position requires accessing all areas in the plant Physical Demands: Regularly required to stand or sit, and move about the facility.

Education and Formal Training:

Bachelor's degree required

Certifications (CSCP, CPIM, Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Certification, etc.)...desired.

Experience:

5+ years Warehouse/Shipping Leadership Experience.

Experience with 'Lean' material management and SAP software preferred.

Management Experience - Employee Reviews, Employee Relations, Training, Hiring, Terminating & Developing.

Materials and Equipment Used:

Office Equipment, Database & Query Software, ERP Software, Procurement Software - SAP system.
