2. Compensation
Salary Range: $231,000 - $268,000 per year
Additional Compensation: Qualified candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $20,000

5. Position Summary
The Senior Manager of Inpatient Pharmacy Operations will serve as a strategic leader responsible for overseeing pharmacy operations, clinical practice, and drug therapy management across inpatient pharmacy settings. This position requires collaboration with senior pharmacy leadership, acute care leaders, and clinical staff to implement strategic priorities and ensure regulatory compliance while maintaining and improving operational performance. The successful candidate will provide consultative oversight, drive quality improvements, and develop talent within a complex, multi-disciplinary healthcare environment operating 24/7/365.
6. Must-Haves
  • Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree or equivalent (Bachelor of Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy)
  • Active Washington State Pharmacist License (required at hire)
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI#) within 6 months of hire
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Pharmacist and/or Pharmacist Intern in pharmacy or directly related field, OR 3 years as a Pharmacist/Intern plus completion of a PGY1 residency
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing operational or project budgets
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience with direct reports (solid line of reporting with hire/fire authority)
  • Experience managing pharmacy staff in an inpatient/acute hospital setting
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and update clinical workflows
7. Primary Functions
  • Partner with national, regional, and local pharmacy leadership to provide direction and oversight of inpatient operational performance and maintain enterprise-wide quality standards
  • Facilitate strategic conversations with Acute Care Leaders to implement pharmacy strategic priorities and goals across all inpatient pharmacy practice settings
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and quality of pharmaceutical care and services by developing, presenting, and overseeing implementation of standardized processes
  • Provide innovative consultative feedback and recommendations to drug use management leadership regarding appropriate pharmaceutical utilization and care management initiatives
  • Oversee development and supervision of acute care pharmacy supervisory personnel, including planning, implementation, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Establish and maintain strategic relationships with medical center leaders, nursing, physicians, and other clinical staff to provide pharmaceutical consultative advice and oversight
  • Provide strategic implementation oversight during staff meetings, clinical practice meetings, and interdisciplinary huddles to ensure team alignment
  • Approve revisions and updates to compounding master formulas, formulary dispensing records, and pharmacy dispensing program templates
  • Leverage data regarding drug availability and supply to escalate issues enterprise-wide and influence strategic inventory management priorities
  • Create and advocate for developmental opportunities; build collaborative, cross-functional relationships with clinical and operational teams
  • Manage translation of business plans into tactical action items; oversee work assignment completion and identify improvement opportunities
  • Drive solutions for drug therapy implementation by evaluating and implementing improvements to drug use management and pharmacotherapeutic guidelines across multiple locations
  • Oversee drug education and training efforts to positively impact patient compliance and provider prescribing practices
  • Manage complex pharmaceutical care initiatives, formulary management activities, and clinical drug trials with focus on safe, rational, and cost-effective prescribing
  • Lead team efforts to monitor compliance with state and federal laws, DEA regulations, State Board of Pharmacy requirements, HIPAA, and organizational quality standards
  • Manage investigation, response, and resolution of complex escalated member inquiries and regulatory concerns
8. Required Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of inpatient pharmacy operations and acute hospital pharmacy practice
  • Demonstrated proficiency in budget management and financial oversight
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities with proven ability to hire, train, develop, and supervise diverse pharmacy staff (Pharmacists, Interns, Pharmacy Technicians)
  • Expert knowledge of drug use management, pharmacotherapy, and medication safety
  • Proficiency in developing, implementing, and maintaining clinical workflows in collaboration with hospital and physician leadership
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and relationship-building skills in multi-disciplinary environments
  • Strong regulatory compliance knowledge including DEA, State Board of Pharmacy, and HIPAA requirements
  • Strategic planning and implementation oversight capabilities
  • Data analysis and performance measurement skills
  • Change management and organizational improvement abilities
  • Experience fostering open dialogue, engagement, and collaboration within and across teams
  • Ability to provide consultative feedback and recommendations on complex pharmaceutical issues
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting to senior leadership
  • Experience in 24/7/365 operational healthcare environments
  • Preferred: Completion of PGY1 or PGY2 residency
  • Preferred: Experience in union healthcare environments
  • Preferred: Experience managing Critical Care/ICU, Med-Surg, Infusion, and Emergency Room/Urgent Care pharmacy operations
  • Preferred: Experience with hospital expansion efforts
