What is a strategic financial analyst?

Strategic Financial Analysts are professionals who evaluate a company's financial data to guide long-term business planning and decision-making. They analyze trends, forecast future financial performance, and assess investment opportunities to help organizations achieve their strategic objectives. Their work often involves collaborating with executives to develop financial models, budgets, and strategies that drive growth and efficiency. Strategic Financial Analysts play a key role in ensuring that a company’s financial resources are aligned with its overall business goals.

How does a strategic financial analyst typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

A Strategic Financial Analyst frequently works cross-functionally, partnering with teams such as operations, marketing, and senior management to provide financial insights that inform business decisions. They are often involved in meetings to discuss budget forecasts, evaluate investment opportunities, and assess the financial impact of new initiatives. Effective communication and collaboration are essential, as analysts must translate complex financial data into actionable recommendations tailored for non-financial stakeholders. This collaborative approach ensures that business strategies are financially sound and aligned with organizational goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a strategic financial analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Strategic Financial Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, financial modeling expertise, and a degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. Familiarity with advanced Excel functions, financial planning software (such as SAP, Oracle, or Hyperion), and sometimes CFA or CPA certification is highly valued. Exceptional problem-solving abilities, strategic thinking, and effective communication skills help you deliver actionable insights and collaborate with cross-functional teams. These skills are crucial for providing accurate financial analysis and guiding business decisions that drive organizational growth and profitability.

What is the difference between Strategic Financial Analyst vs Financial Analyst?

Job description

About the Company

At Current, everything starts with people. We believe that when you invest in talent through opportunity, development, and support, you unlock growth for individuals, firms, and clients alike. That’s why we’ve built a platform designed to give our people access to more: more learning, more collaboration, and more ways to grow their careers than any single firm could offer on its own.
Founded in 2023, Currenthas rapidly become one of the fastest-growing accounting platforms in the country, partnering with more than 40 leading accounting firms across the United States. Today, our community includes over 2,000 professionals, 30+ offices nationwide, and a growing global workforce that supports clients around the world. Backed by Thrive Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Springdale Industries, Current is investing heavily in technology, artificial intelligence, and workforce innovation to help modernize the profession. Our leadership team has a proven track record of building and scaling successful businesses, with prior ventures generating more than $3 billion in combined enterprise value.
We’re building something bigger than a traditional accounting firm: a platform where talented people can grow faster, learn more, and do more meaningful work. Whether you join Current, one of our partner firms, or our global team, you’ll be part of a community shaping the future of the profession.

About The Role

Current is seeking a senior, highly strategic Senior FP&A Analyst to own the financial planning, forecasting, and performance management function for our expanding regions. You will serve as the primary financial thought partner to regional leadership, driving the analytical frameworks and forward-looking insights that shape how we allocate capital, evaluate firm performance, and accelerate growth. The ideal candidate brings deep FP&A experience in multi-entity or PE-backed environments, thrives in ambiguity, and can operate at both the strategic and executional levels with equal confidence.

This is an on-site position based at Current’s corporate headquarters in Tampa, Florida, with hybrid flexibility offered at the company’s discretion. Candidates must be located in, or willing to relocate to, the Tampa Bay area.

Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Financial Leadership
  • Drive the annual budget, multi-year long-range plan, and rolling quarterly forecasts, with full ownership from build to presentation.
  • Develop and stress-test scenario models to evaluate strategic alternatives, growth investments, M&A targets, and market expansion opportunities.
  • Serve as the senior financial advisor to Region leadership, shaping investment decisions, resource allocation, and operational strategy through rigorous analysis and confident recommendations.
Performance Management & Insights
  • Own the Region financial performance narrative — delivering monthly and quarterly reporting packages that go beyond variance commentary to surface the “so what” for leadership.
  • Define, track, and continuously refine the KPI framework across revenue, margins, utilization, realization, and client profitability.
  • Build early warning systems and leading indicators that give leadership a forward-looking view before issues become trends.
Business Partnering & M&A Support
  • Act as a trusted embedded partner to firm and regional leaders, translating operational realities into financial projections and bridging strategy and execution.
  • Lead financial diligence, integration modeling, and synergy tracking for Region acquisitions and onboarding activity.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Talent, and Strategy to ensure financial planning is grounded in operational reality.
Systems, Automation & Process Excellence
  • Architect and continuously improve FP&A infrastructure — forecasting cadence, reporting templates, data pipelines, and BI dashboards — to enable speed and scale.
  • Champion self-service analytics by building AI Automation and performance dashboards that give firm and regional leaders real-time visibility into financial performance.
  • Partner with Corporate FP&A and Finance Systems teams to drive consistency in planning tools, data definitions, and reporting standards across the platform.
Team Leadership & Culture
  • Model the behaviors of a high-performance finance team: intellectual curiosity, ownership mentality, and relentless focus on impact.
  • Represent the region in cross-functional planning forums and contribute to enterprise-wide FP&A capability building.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required; MBA or CPA strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive FP&A or corporate finance experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Background in professional services, PE-backed platforms, or multi-entity / multi-location businesses strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Expert-level financial modeling in Excel; ability to build dynamic, audit-ready models from scratch.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP and planning systems (NetSuite, Workday Adaptive, SAP, Anaplan, or equivalent) and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau).
  • Strong command of GAAP, financial statement drivers, and operational metrics relevant to services businesses.
People Skills
  • Executive-level communication skills, equally effective in a boardroom presentation and a one-on-one coaching conversation.
  • Proven ability to influence without authority and build credibility with senior stakeholders through insight quality, not positional authority.
  • Highly organized, with the discipline to manage competing priorities and deliver consistently in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

This role is member firm-facing and requires frequent travel. Candidates should expect to travel approximately 30-40% of the time, including regular visits to member firms across the region to support business partnering, onboarding, and M&A integration activity. Candidates must be comfortable with a travel schedule that varies by quarter based on business needs. Core collaboration hours follow Eastern Time (ET) to support firm leadership and cross-functional coordination with the broader Current finance team.

Compensation & Benefits

The total rewards package at Current includes base salary and benefits.

Our salary ranges are competitive within the accounting industry and are updated regularly using the most reliable compensation survey data for our industry. New hire offers are made based on a candidate’s experience, expertise, geographic location, and internal pay equity relative to peers.

  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance (with options for fully paid employee only coverage for health and dental)
  • Company-Paid Life and Long-Term Disability Insurance
  • Ancillary Benefits such as supplemental life insurance and short-term disability options
  • Classic Safe Harbor 401(k) Plan with employer contributions
  • Opportunities for professional growth, learning, and development including access to Becker and LinkedIn Learning
Equal Opportunity

We are an equal opportunity employer, and we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, veteran status, disability, genetic information, or any other applicable legally protected characteristic.
