A Strategic Finance Manager is responsible for guiding a company's financial planning and analysis to support long-term business goals. They analyze market trends, prepare financial forecasts, and evaluate investment opportunities to help senior leadership make informed decisions. Their role often involves budgeting, risk assessment, and collaborating with other departments to align financial strategies with overall business objectives. By providing insights and recommendations, they play a key role in driving the company's financial health and growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a strategic finance manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Strategic Finance Manager, you need strong analytical abilities, financial modeling expertise, and a background in finance, accounting, or economics, typically supported by a relevant degree or CPA/CFA certification. Familiarity with financial planning software, ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, and advanced Excel skills is commonly required. Job description

Who we are:
Nirvana is on a mission to modernize commercial insurance and enable a safer world. Our AI-driven technology platform delivers modern insurance and risk management to help our customers protect their businesses and to improve the safety of their operations.
We've already proven the scale-serving thousands of fleets and more than doubling our written premiums year over year. Our data moat is growing exponentially with more than 30 billion miles of telematics data, leading to more predictive models and new insights into how we can better understand and reduce risk.
With $270+ million raised, including our Series D round in December 2025, we're only accelerating our growth, with strong support from top-tier VCs including Lightspeed, General Catalyst, and Valor. Nirvana's leadership team has previously helped scale multi-billion-dollar companies from scratch, including Samsara, Rubrik, and Flexport, and includes industry veterans from Hiscox, The Hartford, and RLI.
About the role:
In this role, you'll serve as a trusted strategic advisor to senior leadership across two fast-growing, AI-native businesses: an AI-native claims TPA and an AI-native platform for insurance.
As a strategic partner to senior leadership, you'll influence some of the company's most important decisions-from where we invest and how we scale to how we build an AI-native finance organization. You'll work cross-functionally, connecting strategy, finance, operations, and execution to help drive the business forward.
This is a high-impact, high-autonomy role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment. You'll tackle the company's biggest challenges, lead cross-functional initiatives, and help build AI-first systems, processes, and operating rhythms that will define our next stage of growth.
What you'll do:
  • Partner directly with senior leadership to shape company strategy, driving decisions on growth, investments, capital allocation, and organizational priorities
  • Lead high-impact, cross-functional initiatives that improve business performance, partnering with leaders across Product, Engineering, Operations, Go-to-Market, Recruiting, and People from identifying opportunities through execution
  • Design the operating rhythms that help the company scale, including planning, forecasting, performance management, and company-wide decision-making processes.
  • Define the company's long-term financial strategy, including fundraising, strategic planning, and/or evaluating new business opportunities.
  • Directly shape how we build an AI-native finance organization, reimagining how AI augments every part of the workflows, from planning, analysis, decision-making, to execution

About you:
  • 4-6 years of experience across management consulting, investment banking, private equity, Strategic Finance or Business Operations roles in high-growth companies
  • Proficiency in complex financial modeling and planning
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with multiple teams, building strong relationships, and driving alignment in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.
  • Demonstrated outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify and articulate complex financial concepts to diverse stakeholders, from executives to operators.
  • Hands-on operator: comfortable digging into the details with teams, implementing solutions, and iterating quickly - not just producing metrics or analysis.
  • Detail-oriented and execution-focused, with the resilience to thrive in a high-performance, fast-paced setting.

Benefits:
  • Competitive salary & equity
  • Medical, dental & vision insurance
  • 401k with company match
  • Unlimited PTO
  • 3 days/week in SF office

We set our salary ranges using compensation data from companies similar to our stage and size. For this role, the estimated salary range for this position is $140,000 - $160,000. The actual base salary will vary depending on multiple factors unique to each candidate, including location, job-related knowledge, transferable skills, work experience and our assessment of your level during the interview process.
Nirvana offers a wide range of best-in-class, comprehensive benefits for this role including 100% employer paid healthcare plans, a healthy 401k match program, paid time off, parental leave, wellness reimbursement, work-from-home stipend and more.
In addition, Nirvana offers equity for all full-time employees, which is not included in the range listed above and will have a significant impact on your overall compensation.
Nirvana is committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce. If you're interested in this role, but do not meet 100% of the qualifications listed above, we encourage you to apply. We'd like to consider you for this position and roles that may be a fit in the future. Nirvana is an Equal Opportunity Employer and considers applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, orientation, national origin, age, disability, genetics or any other basis forbidden under federal, state, or local law. Nirvana considers all qualified applicants in accordance with the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance.
