Job summary

The communications intern will support strategic communications initiatives that strengthen employee engagement, share organizational stories and connect internal and external audiences. This position offers hands-on experience in internal communications, storytelling, social media management, content development and multimedia communications.

The intern will assist with content creation across multiple platforms, including employee communication channels, blogs, newsletters, intranet resources, social media and special projects. Through interviewing employees, developing written and digital content, and utilizing communications software and platforms, the intern will gain practical experience while helping support Platte River goals. The selected candidate will have opportunities to develop professional skills in corporate communications, employee engagement, content strategy and digital communications while contributing to meaningful organizational initiatives.

Schedule and environment

This internship is expected to begin in September 2026, concluding in June 2027. This is a part-time internship of no more than 29 hours per week.

Work is performed primarily in an office environment, with occasional attendance at meetings, employee activities, community events and project-related functions. Occasional evening or after-hours event support may be required. The position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement based on business needs and departmental requirements.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Assist with development and execution of internal and external communications initiatives.
  • Conduct interviews with employees, leaders and community partners to gather information and develop stories.
  • Transcribe interviews and organize content for communications projects.
  • Write and edit articles, feature stories, blogs, newsletters, employee communications and social media content.
  • Support management of social media platforms through content creation, scheduling, monitoring and reporting.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining internal communications channels and resources.
  • Develop content and assets for communication campaigns and special projects.
  • Utilize communications software and digital platforms to create, schedule and distribute content.
  • Assist with communications related to employee events, community engagement activities and special projects.
  • Support measurement and reporting of communication initiatives, as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Internship qualifications

  • One year of general work, volunteer, student organization or internship experience preferred.

Pay

This is a temporary, part-time, non-exempt internship working up to 29 hours per week and is not benefits eligible. Wages are paid bi-weekly.
