PARKS & GROUNDS MAINTENANCE - Seasonal/Full Time Hours

Job description

Position Summary
Assist in a variety of maintenance activities throughout the Jackson County Park System for the 2026 season. Functions include mowing, tree and brush work, cleaning bathrooms, playgrounds and picnic areas, general park maintenance and upkeep, assisting with light construction and various miscellaneous projects. Most positions are 40 hours/week; Some 15-29 hour schedules available. Some weekends, evenings & holidays required. Could start as early as March and run through late fall.
Position Description
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a minimum of 18 years old with a valid MI driver's license and a safe driving record. Applicants must have the ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and possess necessary physical capabilities to safely perform related tasks. Available to work a flexible schedule, on occasion, that meets the needs of the facility, including available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. Employees must be able to maintain positive working relationships with the public, fellow employees and other working groups. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide outstanding customer service to park visitors.
2. Represent Jackson County Parks with a friendly, positive attitude.
3. Help maintain a safe, clean parks system, including, trails, playgrounds, picnic areas, and boating and swimming areas.
4. Daily/weekly cleaning and preventative maintenance of equipment
5. Mowing with zero turn mower, weed trimming and general landscape work
6. Parks cleaning and preparation, including trash clean up, picnic shelters, restrooms, and the overall park
7. Aide in light construction projects
8. Assist in tree clean up, storm cleanup and brush cleaning.
9. Operation of truck with trailer and equipment (Depending on assigned area of work)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physically active position requiring walking, bending, lifting, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Also includes operating equipment with small engines.
