Retail Sales Associate
Position Overview:
Under the direction of the department Supervisor, the Retail Sales Associate is directly responsible for the prompt, efficient, and courteous service of patrons, collecting payments, and for meeting patron needs during his/her visit. Other duties include maintaining gift shop inventory, vending machine inventory, pricing, stocking vending machines, shelves and ensuring cleanliness of work and storage areas.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • None

Key Responsibilities:
  • Enthusiastically welcome all patrons as they enter the main hospital entry and Gift Shop.
  • Initiate conversation by asking open-ended questions to determine patron needs.
  • Accurately answer routine questions/inquiries in a helpful and courteous manner.
  • Present merchandise with enthusiasm and assist in the selection by making recommendations to the patron.
  • Process sales as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Support front of house operations in all activities needed to provide a positive patron experience.
  • Anticipate and meet the requirements of patrons with disabilities and/or accessibility issues.
  • Address patron concerns by working with the PFS PAS Supervisor to reach the desired resolution.
  • Responsible for closing cash registers and the necessary paperwork including the reconciliation of cash receipts and deposits.
  • Order inventory for gift shop and vending machines.
  • Price inventory for gift shop and vending machines.
  • Restock gift shop and vending machines.
  • Maintain desired cleanliness in stock areas.
  • Manage and maintain packing slips on merchandise received, manage damage reporting and back orders.
  • Complete monthly inventory of gift shop. Notify PFS PAS Supervisor of any discrepancies.
  • Complete inventory of all vending machines a minimum of two times per week. Ensure waste is properly noted. Notify PFS PAS Supervisor of any discrepancies.
  • Work effectively and efficiently with any other individuals working in Gift Shop.
  • Be adept at register usage and maintain all cash controls.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift twenty-five (25) pounds
  • Ability to remain standing for long periods of time

Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently to complete the assigned departmental tasks in the Gift Shop.
  • Understanding all aspects of retail including sales, customer service priority, theft prevention, stock movement and merchandising.
  • Requires analytical ability and strong knowledge of system analysis and data gathering techniques.
  • Ability to work independently towards specific goals and objectives and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Proficient computing skills including MS Office Products.
  • High-level of accuracy and attention to detail, flexibility, and ability to attend to competing priorities in an effective and timely way and prioritize effectively in team environment.

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • One year of experience in similar retail work environment.
