JCS Solutions LLC is seeking a Senior Storage Engineer in Fort Belvoir, VA to partner on a large enterprise IT contract for the Department of War (DoW) to support storage operations across multiple geographic locations. The Storage Engineer SME provides senior technical leadership for enterprise storage services under the Defense Threat Reduction Agency Information Management & Technical Directorate Integrated Information Technology Services (I3TS) contract. This role architects, implements, and sustains highly available storage platforms supporting mission-critical I3TS workloads across primary, alternate, and regional environments. The engineer drives performance optimization, capacity planning, and resilient backup and recovery strategies to meet recovery objectives, continuity requirements, and operational service levels. This position ensures storage operations align with organizational and federal compliance requirements and coordinates closely with EOC, infrastructure, network, and security teams.
What you will do:
  • Install, configure, and administer enterprise storage solutions across multiple platforms, including Dell EMC, PowerFlex, and Quantum.
  • Deploy, manage, and maintain Rubrik server and client environments, including backup scheduling, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Administer Fibre Channel fabrics (Cisco/Brocade), including zoning configuration, performance monitoring, and capacity management.
  • Design, implement, and secure SMB file shares and coordinate NFS export creation and access with server administrators.
  • Provision and manage SAN storage for VMware ESX clusters in coordination with vCenter administrators.
  • Configure and maintain snapshots and volume replication; support point-in-time recovery and disaster recovery operations.
  • Develop and implement Disaster Recovery (DR) and Continuity of Operations (COOP) strategies aligned with customer requirements.
  • Install and administer Linux and Windows systems supporting storage platforms (e.g., Rubrik, media, DSM, and master servers).
  • Monitor system health, availability, performance, and capacity trends; develop dashboards to enhance visibility and lifecycle planning.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve backup failures, infrastructure issues, and Tier 2/3 service requests.
  • Collaborate with vendors to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues.
  • Coordinate with Change Management to plan and execute maintenance, upgrades, and configuration changes during scheduled windows.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities using scripting and storage platform APIs (e.g., Dell, NetApp).
  • Support cloud storage integrations and hybrid infrastructure environments as needed.
  • Continuously improve operational processes to enhance efficiency and reliability.
  • Operate effectively both independently and within a 24/7/365 support environment.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior team members.
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor's degree with 8-12 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with 6-10 years of experience; additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising and mentoring team members.
  • Extensive experience administering enterprise-level storage systems (Dell Storage Center, Dell Compellent, and Data Domain preferred).
  • Strong expertise in:
    • SAN administration (LUN provisioning, Fibre Channel zoning, storage mapping)
    • NAS administration (NFS and SMB file sharing)
    • VMware ESX integration
    • Data migration strategies
    • Snapshots and volume replication
    • Active Directory file/share permissions
    • Storage monitoring and performance tuning
    • Cloud storage management
  • Proven experience with Veritas Rubrik administration.
  • Proficiency in scripting, particularly PowerShell.
  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems and Distributed File System (DFS).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior management and customers.
  • Ability to independently manage complex projects in a 24/7/365 operational environment while meeting performance metrics.
  • Must meet DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II certification requirements (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, GSEC, or SSCP with appropriate CE certification).
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance required.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required due to government contract requirements.

At JCS Solutions, compensation is based on a number of factors such as location, qualifications, and applicable contract terms. The general salary range for this position is as follows: $90,000.00 - $106,000.00
