Sr. Software Development Engineer, ASE Storage

Seattle, Washington, United States Software and Services

Apple Services Engineering (ASE) designs, builds, and operates the cloud infrastructure, server systems, and platform technologies that power many of Apple's most beloved experiences. Within ASE, the Storage Platforms organization develops the systems that store, protect, and serve Apple's data at massive scale, with a mission to deliver storage that is durable, secure, highly available, and operated with excellence. Engineers on this team will have the rare opportunity to work on storage device-optimized low-level storage, large-scale distributed systems, and high-performance IO stacks operating at mission-critical levels of availability and durability. Each component is being built using first principles from the ground up to unlock optimization opportunities at every layer of the stack. Description

We are looking for collaborative, curious, and pragmatic Software Engineers to be part of this innovative team. In this role, you will: Shape the product's features and architecture as it scales orders of magnitude Demonstrate passion for large-scale distributed systems and creating robust storage solutions

Responsibilities
  • Build systems that simply work, empowering billions of meaningful moments for people around the world
  • Design storage device-optimized low-level storage solutions from first principles
  • Develop and maintain large-scale distributed systems with mission-critical reliability
  • Optimize high-performance IO stacks for maximum availability and durability
  • Drive operational excellence across storage platform infrastructure
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to deliver resilient platforms that enable innovation across Apple
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3 years of professional software development experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience in building storage systems
  • 2+ years of coding in one or more of these programming languages: Rust, C++, Java or C#
  • Experience with scripting languages (Bash, Python, Perl)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, an engineering-related field, or equivalent related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent knowledge of software testing methodologies & practices
  • Deep understanding of core computer science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, and concurrency.
  • Solid grasp of distributed systems fundamentals such as fault tolerance, consistency, and distributed rate limiting.
  • Experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems such as databases or storage platforms.
  • Proficient with UNIX/Linux

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $205,400 and $374,300, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
