Sr. Storage & Backup Engineer


On behalf of our client, Procom Services is searching for a Sr. Storage & Backup Engineer for a contract opportunity. This resource can be based in either Dallas, TX or Durham, NC.


Sr. Storage & Backup Engineer Job Details


Assess the storage and backup solutions in use by our current installed-base customers

Evaluate customer needs based on applications requirements, current capacity and growth trends

Deliver engineering specifications, assist with functional specifications, and collaborate on technical designs and specifications for projects and initiatives.

Estimate effort, both development and product delivery timelines, to determine a course of action for project.

Provide technical or business analytical leadership for specific storage and backup needs or objectives in order to meet business requirements.

Work closely with external vendors and other personnel in order to optimize and facilitate the best solution to meet the needs of the business.

Develop recommendations in support of project objectives. Develop logical and physical technical artifacts for review.

Provide technical services for customers in a highly complex storage and backup environments. Demonstrate ability to assess technical impact to the project/new technology along with technical risks.

Resolve complex problems with little or no guidance. Independently research and promote specialized technical solutions.

Analyze complex hardware and software issues associated with backup-related technologies, including NetBackup, CommVault, Data Domain and Enterprise Vault.

Analyze complex hardware and software issues associated with complex storage platforms including EMC, HDS, NetApp, and others

Analyze, design, test, document, and implement solutions for continuous data availability, integrity, backup and protection.

Maintain technical awareness of developments within the backup and storage technology industry and evaluate the applicability of those developments to needs of Fujitsu, in order to ensure that such developments are exploited for the business benefit of the company.

Define and specify architecture protocols and functional requirements and specifications for storage and backup components.

Strong background in enterprise data protection, management and protection solutions. Must be able to design and implement new data protection solutions, manage change, and add backup policies in a large-scale, mission-critical, multi-PB storage environment. Must have wide-ranging experience and the ability to apply that experience along with professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in effective ways. Strong organizational skills are necessary. Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. This will be a technical team lead role.


Demonstrate domain knowledge in storage, data management and data protection technologies and be able apply the knowledge of these methodologies to the storage, protection, retention, reclamation, and disaster recovery.

Manage, configure and maintain multi-PB multi-tiered environment.

Report on performance and capacities and make allocation recommendations based on trending.

Participate in capacity planning and performance discussions and assist in development and execution of disaster recovery exercises.


Sr. Storage & Backup Engineer Mandatory Skills


Knowledge of Symantec NetBackup, Commvault Simpana and similar backup technologies

Knowledge of Enterprise storage systems from EMC, NetApp, NDS and similar systems

Experience with Enterprise data protection and disaster recover solution, and understand Enterprise application data management requirements


Non-technical Qualifications:

Ability to plan and control projects.

Mathematical, analytical and statistical aptitude

Excellent planning, interpersonal, problem solving, leadership skills are required.

Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written and presentation are necessary. Active listening skills are required.

Excellent influencing and consultative skills; and the ability to proactively identify and resolve issues and opportunities.

Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and in environments dealing with ambiguity.

The ability to determine the information necessary to strategically assess market situations, as well as, the ability to evaluate and determine optimal plans of action is essential.
