Responsibilities

The Senior Storage Administrator supports a mixed and growing environment of enterprise storage hardware, working with the existing OS and Storage teams to manage, maintain, deploy, troubleshoot, and support servers and storage systems for ALTESS and its customers.

This is a remote-eligible position. Local candidates in the Roanoke and Radford, Virginia area are encouraged to apply, and work may be performed locally for those who prefer an on-site or hybrid arrangement. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on enterprise storage administration expertise, strong DoD cybersecurity compliance knowledge, and the ability to support mission-critical Army IT services across enterprise data centers and cloud-hosted environments. Occasional travel to government facilities or data center locations may be required based on mission needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage, maintain, deploy, troubleshoot, and support enterprise servers and storage systems for ALTESS and its customers.
  • Assist with implementing new system hardware and software and provide input for local operating procedures and policies.
  • Monitor ongoing system operation and produce utilization reports to identify problems and corrective actions.
  • Recommend, demonstrate, and implement technologies to expand, upgrade, and increase efficiency of the current environment.
  • Design, install, configure, secure, and maintain highly available enterprise data storage systems.
  • Maintain storage and network policies and standards.
  • Refresh data between environments at the request of application development staff.
  • Administer applicable storage networks and support backup software across Windows Server, Solaris, and RHEL/OEL Linux environments.
Qualifications

Requirements:

  • CompTIA Security+.
  • Computing Environment (CE) Certification (e.g., MCSE, Server+, CCNA, RedHat, Palo) - may be waived for 30 days after project join date.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field is preferred; equivalent years of hands-on enterprise storage administration experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
  • Experience in Computer Science or IT.
  • Three or more years' experience in design, installation, configuration, security, and maintenance of highly available enterprise data storage systems.
  • Three or more years' experience maintaining storage and network policies and standards.
  • Three or more years' experience refreshing data between environments at the request of application development staff.
  • Three or more years' experience creating, maintaining, and following Standard Operating Procedures for repeatable processes, disaster recovery, and common problem resolution.
  • Three or more years' experience with MS-Windows, Solaris, and RHEL/OEL Linux environments.
  • Three or more years' experience administering applicable storage networks.
  • Three or more years' experience with VMware 7.x or greater.
  • Three or more years' experience with IP-based network communication.
  • Experience installing and configuring backup software with Windows Server 2019, Solaris 11, and RedHat Enterprise Linux 7 and higher.
  • Experience with both Windows PowerShell and Bash shell scripting.
  • Strong CLI skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to be a team player.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent years of experience.
  • Seven or more years' experience supporting Cybersecurity patch management and STIGs, SRG, RMF, SCA-V, and Cyber Operational Readiness Assessments (CORA).
