Position Purpose

The Head Stocker assists in overseeing the daily stocking, merchandising, and inventory activities of the Grocery Department. This position helps ensure shelves are fully stocked, products are properly displayed, inventory is accurately maintained, and customers receive excellent service. The Head Stocker also provides leadership and direction to stock crew associates while supporting department productivity, safety, and operational goals.

Key Responsibilities Department Operations
  • Coordinate and assist with daily stocking and replenishment activities throughout the department.
  • Ensure product is stocked according to merchandising plans, company standards, and shelf allocation guidelines.
  • Monitor shelf conditions to maintain in-stock levels and product presentation standards.
  • Verify products are rotated utilizing First-In, First-Out (FIFO) inventory practices.
  • Review backstock and organize inventory to maximize efficiency and product availability.
  • Assist with receiving, unloading, and processing deliveries.
  • Maintain department organization, cleanliness, and readiness for customer shopping.
Inventory Management
  • Support inventory control processes and cycle counts.
  • Identify and communicate out-of-stock items, inventory discrepancies, and product issues.
  • Assist in reducing shrink through proper product handling and rotation procedures.
  • Monitor damaged, expired, or unsaleable merchandise and ensure proper disposition.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and department documentation as required.
Customer Service
  • Provide prompt, friendly, and professional customer service.
  • Assist customers with product locations, recommendations, and special requests.
  • Address customer concerns and escalate issues when appropriate.
  • Promote a positive shopping experience through department appearance and product availability.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Provide guidance, direction, and support to stock crew associates.
  • Assist with training new employees on stocking procedures, safety standards, and company expectations.
  • Help ensure productivity goals and operational standards are consistently met.
  • Support team communication and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Serve as a department leader in the absence of department management.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow and enforce company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure aisles, stockrooms, and work areas remain safe and free of hazards.
  • Operate equipment such as pallet jacks, powered equipment, and stocking tools safely.
  • Maintain compliance with all company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support loss prevention and asset protection initiatives.
