Job Description

The Director of International Programs at Stevens Institute of Technology (Stevens) is a visionary leader responsible for the strategic development and expansion of Stevens' education abroad and exchange programs. This role requires a dynamic individual with experience in international education and student success. The Director will lead efforts to increase enrollment, enhance program offerings, foster external relationships, and administrative support. The Director formulates policies and strategies for the Office of International Programs (OIP).

  • Lead the OIP team of one half-time assistant director and several student assistants, providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Foster a culture of innovation and creativity within the unit.

  • Develop and execute strategies to increase student participation in student mobility programs.

  • Work closely with academic advisors, associate chairs, faculty and staff to promote programs and answer questions.

  • Conduct outreach and promotional activities to raise awareness of education abroad and exchange programs.

  • Manage the International exchange student program, both inbound and outbound; work with all areas of campus to ensure a smooth transition for undergraduate and graduate students, including orientation, cultural programming, and liaise with the Office of International Students and Scholars Services (ISSS)

  • Negotiate agreements and partnerships that enhance the quality and accessibility of education abroad and exchange programs, in consultation with the General Counsel's office.

  • Lead the International Education Month Committee; coordinate the month-long celebration with representatives from ISSS, the Library, the Foreign Language department, English Language and Communication and related student clubs and associations.

  • Develop and implement initiatives to foster positive relationships with students participating in education abroad programs. Maintain open communication channels with students to address concerns and provide guidance.

  • Coordinate the study abroad scholarship process

  • Works closely with the Chief Risk Officer to ensure the effectiveness of the institution's international travel policy, pre-departure protocols and emergency responses for all internationally traveling students. Sit on the Emergency Management Team.

  • Oversees the administrative functions of the International Programs office, ensuring efficient and effective operations.

  • Ensures compliance with university policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree and six (6) years of appropriate experience, including supervision of staff

  • Previous experience advising and coordinating study abroad programs.

Desired Qualifications

  • Multilingual.

  • Experience with budget management and financial oversight.

  • Experience with international agreement negotiations.

Compensation Range

In compliance with the New Jersey Wage Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $81,600.00 - $111,533.33. This range represents the University's good faith estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Stevens Institute of Technology determines compensation based on factors including the position's scope and responsibilities, the candidate's experience, education, skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational considerations. The final salary will be set considering departmental budget, qualifications, and relevant credentials. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes additional forms of compensation, such as incentives, stipends, or other applicable pay components.
