Job description

Join the Sterling Bank team as a full time Commercial Loan Officer in our Kansas City location.  In office work hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm.  We offer a competitive benefit package including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance coverages, a 401k retirement plan with an employer match, along with paid holidays, vacation, and personal time off.  

JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for accomplishing management’s marketing objectives of attracting new business and expanding current commercial banking relationships.  Originates, underwrites, and closes various types of secured and unsecured loans in accordance with established lending objectives, policies and procedures.  Implement programs as designated to attract new customers in the business community to drive loan growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Independently makes retention and business development calls on existing and new potential clients.  Continue developing growing network of outside referral sources for potential new business.  Promotes favorable image of the bank in all business activities within the community.
  • Develops, builds and retains commercial business relationships. 
  • Provide timely, personalized service for customers.  Gather related financial and general business information, perform financial analyses needed to make credit decisions, participate in team credit decisions, and communicate with prospects and customers to close loans.
  • Evaluate potential customer loan requests and make loan recommendations to management when the proposed loan is beyond lending authority.
  • Develop broader knowledge base of commercial and other products and services, including loan policy, documentation, structuring and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage difficult situations with customers and provide assistance, advice, and resolutions to customers with difficult issues as needed.
  • Maintains appropriate records and provides assigned reports.
  • Ensures that own work, as well as work of any employees supervised, is in compliance with applicable laws, regulations and guidelines.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Excellent leadership and customer service skills
  • Excellent communication, management, analytical and interpersonal skills
  • Extensive knowledge of bank policies and procedures, lending practices and related areas
  • Proficient computer skills

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Eight years of progressively responsible commercial lending experience
  • Prior sales and customer service experience
