JOB SUMMARY
The Central Supply Technician is responsible for providing clean, properly packaged, sterile instruments and supplies to meet individual customer needs.The Central Supply Technician is responsible for decontaminating, assembling, sterilizing, labeling, performing biological quality controls and stocking supplies, instruments, and equipment for various UVA Health Northern VA Culpeper departments.Some of the major job functions are:Receives, cleans, decontaminates, packages, labels, and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment.Stocks and replenishes supplies and equipment, notifies the department head when new or additional supplies or equipment is needed.Maintains work area in a clean and organized manner.Cleans sterilizers, carts, tables, and other equipment daily.Documents cleaning process as required by department standards.Identifies appropriate method of sterilization required for various items and operates sterilizing equipment as required.Documents sterilization process as required by department and AORN standards.Maintains technical knowledge of specialty instruments by participating in formal continuing education activities.Assists in unit-based quality monitoring and evaluation activities.Demonstrates effective customer relation skills.Promotes a positive and safe work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience: 1 year of experience in a hospital Sterile Reprocessing Department preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.
Licensure: Sterile Processing Tech certification preferred.
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation and sterile/aseptic technique. Ability to read and comprehend written instructions to assemble instrument sets and trays. Ability to learn and understand medical terminology.
