Job description

POSITION: Sterile Processing Technician

ANSWERS TO: Nurse Administrator

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

START DATE: As soon as qualified candidate is chosen

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Direct Hire

WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week (1.0 FTE) โ€“ Monday through Friday 6:30 a.m. โ€“ 3:00 p.m.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, assembling, and sterilizing equipment, supplies, and/or instruments. The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for helping to maintain instrument supply inventory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (BUT NOT LIMITED TO):

  • Cleans, disinfects, assembles, and sterilizes equipment, supplies, and/or instrumentation according to manufacturerโ€™s instructions for use.
  • Keeps required records such as sterilization logs and loaner tray/instrumentation tracking.
  • Works closely with the Nurse Administrator, OR Coordinator, and Charge Nurse to ensure availability of instrumentation for surgical cases.
  • Performs required environmental and/or equipment maintenance.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

SKILLS NEEDED:

  • Must be able to prioritize workloads.
  • Must be able to organize instrumentation in correct trays.
  • Works well with others and independently.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

High School Diploma or Equivalent

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Certification preferred, but not required.

One-year previous sterilization experience required.

Experience with sterilization of orthopedic instrumentation preferred.
