Job description

  • JOB REQUIREMENTS
    • Education
      • A high school diploma or the equivalent preferred. Participation in program for the operating room and/or sterile processing department is desirable. All new employees must obtain certification within 18 months of accepting employment. Initial expenses for certification will be the responsibility of the employee. The employee's expenses will be reimbursed after successful completion of test with a service repayment of 12 months post completion of test.
    • Experience
      • Sterile processing department and/or operating room processing experience preferred. On-the-job training will be provided. 90 days required for training.
    • Physical
      • Normal hospital environment. Close eye work. Hearing within normal range. Exposure to steam, water, lint, odors, and warm temperatures. Distinguish smells. Distinguish temperatures by touch and proximity. Operates sterrad and steam sterilizers, sonic washer, washer-sterilizer. Lifting, carrying up to 30lbs. Pushing/pulling up to 285 lbs. Continuous standing, walking. Frequent bending and stooping. Conditions of work may involve exposures to communicable disease and potentially dangerous gases and injury from sharp instruments. High risk area handles items with blood and body fluids.

  • JOB SUMMARY
    • Receives, identifies, and decontaminates surgical instruments, patient care equipment, carts, and other miscellaneous supplies; inspects, assembles, and wraps for terminal sterilization (steam/sterrad). Stores and redistributes to user departments; operates all departmental equipment used in the processing system. Handles and stores sterile supplies to assure the integrity of sterility. Maintains accurate sterilizer records; maintains adequate level of supplies by notifying the supervisor or by ordering from store room. Maintains a neat, clean and safe working environment.
