Job description

Provide tutoring and other support services to students primarily in Chemistry.

Major Responsibilities:

Provides individualized and group tutoring in a manner that empowers students to become independent, successful learners.

Provides tutoring in Ivy Tech courses with special concentrations in science, technology, and/or math, including remedial mathematics, advanced mathematics, chemistry, biology, anatomy and physiology, accounting, business applications, and other technology fields.

Teaches and assists students in the use of computer software.

Guides and instructs students in the use of software programs and/or web-based applications directly related to Ivy Tech coursework.

Maintains tutoring records for each student.

Interacts with instructors as to student needs, topics tutored, course changes, and new text book adoptions.

Minimum Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree preferred in mathematics, science or related field.

Computer literacy and knowledge in word processing programs required.

Possess a working understanding of college level skills needed by students.

Ability to exercise important human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with college students.

Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.

Knows and is able to utilize training provided in tutoring several Ivy Tech Courses.

Preferred Qualifications:

Tutoring or teaching experience at the adult level.

Other Requirements:

Selected candidate for employment will be subject to pre-employment background checks, including criminal history check, and any offer of employment will be contingent upon that outcome.

Work Hours: Tutoring center hours are set to reflect the needs of the students, which can include days, nights, and virtual availability.

The hourly pay for this position is $17.25.
