Purpose/Description
The Steamfitter performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repairs of pipes and accessories to heating, steam, hot water, and refrigeration systems in County owned and operated facilities. Work is performed under the general direction of a Steamfitter foreman and in accordance with standard trade practices.
Responsibilities
Required Tasks
  • Troubleshoot, test operate, and perform preventative maintenance on all heating, steam, hot water, and refrigeration systems.
  • Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, or related equipment, according to blueprints.
  • Assemble or secure pipes, tubes, fittings, or related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, or threading joints.
  • Measure and mark pipes for cutting or threading.
  • Inspect, examine, or test installed systems or pipe lines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
  • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair, according to specifications.
  • Attach pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets, clamps, tools, or welding equipment.
  • Modify, clean, or maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, or related machines or equipment, using hand or power tools.
  • Select pipe sizes, types, or related materials, such as supports, hangers, or hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
  • Cut or bore holes in structures, such as bulkheads, decks, walls, or mains, prior to pipe installation, using hand or power tools.
  • Install and maintain pneumatic control systems and related accessories.
  • Install and maintain hydraulic systems and related piping, accessories and controls.
  • Shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches.
  • Remove and replace worn components.
  • Handling and Moving Objects: Cut metal components for installation.

Qualifications
Educational/ Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of Steamfitter apprenticeship program
  • Journeyman license
  • Two years of post- secondary technical education or a recognized apprenticeship in the area of heating and cooling system design and maintenance.
  • At least two years of experience in the areas of heating, ventilating, and cooling systems maintenance, repair and welding.
  • THIS IS A FIRST SHIFT POSITION. MONDAY-FRIDAY
  • 7:00 am - 3:30 pm; OR
  • THIS IS A SECOND SHIFT POSITION. MONDAY-FRIDAY
