Job description

Position Summary Brown County is seeking persons to serve as Election Judges/Election Assistants including Absentee Ballot Board duties, performing technical procedures to assist elections staff in conducting absentee voting, election administration tasks, and related duties as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the position's management approved work schedule is required for all positions.

Review returned absentee ballots for completion. Determine voter's registration status within the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS) and the signature envelope. Compare voter's identifying requirements within the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS) and ensure voter has signed the envelope.

Review voter's witness eligibility. Count and balance absentee ballots. Open, duplicate and initialize ballots.

Tabulate absentee ballots. Accurately compile statistics related to issued and received absentee ballots. Prepare and /or enter data into the Statewide Voter Registration System (SVRS).

Prepare, stuff and/or collate election related materials. Assist with ballot and equipment testing. Issue absentee ballots to county residents.

Answer questions from the voters and others regarding elections Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications At least 18 years of age. A Minnesota resident for at least 20 days.

A citizen of the United States. Able to read, write, and speak the English language. Eligible to vote in Minnesota.

High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) Valid Driver's License To view the specific minimum qualifications/statutory requirements you must meet in order to serve as an election judge, please use the following link to read Sec. 204B.19 of the Minnesota Statues in relation to Election Judges Qualifications: https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/cite/204B.19 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to learn and carry out Minnesota election processes, laws, policies and procedures. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to work effectively with the public, department and County associates in a professional manner. Ability to organize work efficiently and effectively.

Ability to use computers and computer programs proficiently. Ability to perform accurate detail work with figures, statistical records, filing proofreading and spelling. Ability to effectively and efficiently work under pressure in a highly visible work environment during elections.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a County office building. Some travel within Brown County may be required. Lifting requirement of up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis.

Position may require travel within Brown County and will require occasional use of a personal vehicle. Equipment that may be used include, but is not limited to, ballot counter, computer, tablet, printer, telephone, calculator, copy and scanning machines. SALARY RANGE: 4 hours or less per workday = $50.

>4 hours and <6 hours per workday = $75. >6 hours and <8 hours per workday = $100. >8 hours = $100 + $12.50 per additional hour per workday
