Job Summary
The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a statistician to assist with a variety of research studies focused on the prevention and treatment of substance use disorders. Working collaboratively with investigators as well as staff members who engage in patient-facing data collection, you will be responsible for cleaning, managing, analyzing, and interpreting data focused on topics such as behavioral health, psychological constructs, and healthcare utilization from longitudinal studies, including clinical trial designs. This will involve maintaining standardized documentation of analytic datasets, enacting quality assurance procedures, following all required data security procedures, drafting and completing analysis plans, and producing complete reports and data visualizations consistent with performed analyses. You may need to enact and then compare and evaluate various courses of analytic action and to clearly summarize the advantages and disadvantages of the approaches to aid final decisions on study analyses and publications.
This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented and who possesses content knowledge of the clinical areas of focus and related measurements, or is who willing and flexible to learn about the area and apply these learnings going forward in tandem with their own data analysis expertise.
Responsibilities*
Your responsibilities in this position will include, but are not limited to:
  • Data cleaning for cross-sectional, longitudinal, and linked datasets, primarily of self-report, interview, and survey data; occasional use of administrative data from electronic health records and paradata from web-based or mobile programs
  • Ability to performance linkage of data across platforms and programs to ensure accurate reporting (e.g., EnrollNow/Ripple, Excel, SAS/SPSS/R, Qualtrics)
  • Maintaining logs of data cleaning activities, including reproducible code
  • Ongoing quality assurance monitoring for data integrity
  • Data analysis and assistance with interpretation of analyses using the above types of datasets, including for clinical trial results
  • Assisting with data reporting to external sources (e.g., required data repositories, funders, ClinicalTrials.gov)
  • Assisting with the preparation and publication of data for dissemination products, which may include co-authorship consistent with authorship guidelines and product type
  • Maintaining appropriate human subjects research certifications

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position
  • 1-3 years professional experience
  • Candidates must be detailed oriented, possess the ability to work productively with others in a cooperative team environment, and have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • The successful candidate will be adept at multi-tasking, able to work independently, maintain orderly records and seek guidance as needed
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, critical thinking, and attentiveness to detail are required

Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience working with human subjects data reflecting behavioral health, substance use, psychological, and/or related constructs.
  • Experience working with electronic health record data and/or dense paradata from web or app programs
  • Experience working with clinical trial data using common statistical software
  • Experience using Ripple/EnrollNow and Qualtrics

Work Schedule
This is a regular, full time position (40 hours per week) with normal business hours.
Work Locations
The PI's lab is located at one of Michigan Medicine's offsite medical campus locations in Ann Arbor, MI. This position may be considered for hybrid or remote work.

Background Screening
