What does a statistical programming intern do?

A Statistical Programming Intern assists in analyzing data and creating statistical reports, often using software languages like SAS, R, or Python. They help design and implement data analysis plans, support senior statisticians or data scientists, and ensure data quality and integrity. Their work is crucial in fields like clinical research, finance, and marketing, where data-driven decision-making is essential. Interns gain hands-on experience with real-world datasets and learn best practices in data management and statistical analysis.

What types of projects or tasks can a statistical programming intern expect to work on during their internship?

As a Statistical Programming Intern, you will typically assist with data cleaning, preparation, and analysis for ongoing research or clinical studies. You might be responsible for writing and testing code in SAS, R, or Python to generate tables, listings, and figures, as well as supporting the development of statistical analysis plans. Interns often collaborate closely with biostatisticians, data managers, and clinical teams to ensure high-quality data outputs. This role offers valuable exposure to real-world datasets and best practices in statistical programming, providing a solid foundation for future roles in data science or biostatistics.

Job description

Overview

Lutron is seeking a Textile Engineering Intern to join our collaborative team and contribute to high-impact projects. In this role, you will make an impact in Lutron's window shade's product by completing an engineering project such as the development, analysis, and recommendation of textile test methods. At Lutron, your interest in textile development and existing product support will grow through hands-on experience, practical skill-building, and collaboration with experienced engineers in a supportive environment.

Your internship at Lutron could offer you the opportunity to work on:

  • Using and recommending Textile Standards to test new product and potentially creating an internal test method.

  • Meeting fabric suppliers to support fabric selection, marketing prototyping, and design qualifications.

  • Collaborating with vendors to incorporate industry best practices to ensure world-class fabric performance

  • Using statistical methods to identify root cause and corrective action of manufacturing and customer issues

  • Driving active projects in partnership with cross functional teams

  • Learning and applying newly adopted tools and technologies to enhance system performance, reliability, and scalability

Qualifications

We seek talented, success-minded people with the desire and ability to make things happen. Our baseline requirements are simple:

  • Your cumulative GPA is at least 3.20

  • You are a rising junior, rising senior, or master's student at the start of the internship

  • You have broad interests in engineering design and development

  • You are authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require Lutron to sponsor you for any work visa, such as an H-1B, either immediately or at any time in the future. Lutron does not offer work visa sponsorship for this position.

  • Willingness and ability to work on-site 5 days per week

Lutron is a team-oriented environment, and you will work within these teams to look at broad issues and identify root causes, not just quick fixes. You must have a willingness to ask tough questions, seek out new resources and work hard to find the best solution.

Here is what you can expect from our internship program:
