Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a Maternal and Child Health Epidemiologist to join our Public Health Division.
This position is critical for monitoring and improving the health outcomes of pregnant/postpartum women, infants and children in Nebraska.

As a mid-level Maternal and Child Health Epidemiologist you are responsible for the following tasks:
  • Help coordinate the Maternal Mortality Review Team, which includes managing, analyzing and reporting data; utilizing data, methods, and research in the development of recommendations to prevent deaths; and serving as a subject matter expert.
  • Serve as primary data analyst for Nebraska's Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System, a survey of new moms on their experiences before, during, and shortly after pregnancy.
  • Participate in other key Maternal and Child Health Epidemiology projects including monitoring indicators of the population's health, updating indicators annually and assess for emerging trends, and conducting additional analysis and research into findings.

Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Statistics, Epidemiology, Informatics, or Health field plus 8 years of experience working in data analysis, statistics, & interpretation of data in a health subject area OR Master's Degree in Public Health, Statistics, Epidemiology, Informatics, or Health field plus 6 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Maternal and Child Health subject matter knowledge, intermediate knowledge and skills using a statistical software package such as SAS or Stata, and working knowledge of PowerBI.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of: epidemiological principles and practices related to the surveillance, investigative techniques, proper prevention and control techniques. Knowledge of data to be collected and analyzed, statistical tools, epidemiological study methodologies and protocols.
Ability to: independently design, develop, implement, integrate, and conduct epidemiological systems, models, and studies, conduct analytical studies of system capabilities, influence participation of medical practitioners and other health players, analyze complex health data, prepare studies and reports, explain and defend complex studies and recommendations.
