What is a state internship?

State internships are temporary positions offered by state government agencies to students or recent graduates. These internships provide hands-on experience in various fields such as public administration, law, health, and engineering, allowing participants to gain insight into how state government operates. Interns often work on projects, assist with research, or support day-to-day operations, helping them develop professional skills and build networks for future employment. State internships can be paid or unpaid and may lead to full-time opportunities within government agencies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a state intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a State Intern, you generally need a strong academic background, attention to detail, and an interest in public service or government operations. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, government documentation systems, and sometimes specialized databases is often expected. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability help interns effectively engage with diverse stakeholders and multitask in a professional environment. These skills ensure interns can contribute meaningfully, learn quickly, and support the functions of state government agencies.

Job description

Company

BrainStorm is a B2B SaaS company that drives digital adoption and organizational change for outstanding companies around the world, including PepsiCo, Agilent Technologies, Mattel, IDEXX, Johnsonville, VF Corp, and more.

BrainStorm thrives on a dynamic and fun-loving atmosphere, paired with a steadfast commitment to excellence. Our high-performing team is composed of self-starters who play a pivotal role in driving our success. Once we walk through the door, it's definitely 'Go Time'.

Opportunity

Join the award-winning BrainStorm Learning Experience (LX) team! This team is responsible for designing, creating, and maintaining content meant to teach millions of users around the world to adopt AI and software in their work. As an intern, you will help shape how organizations adopt and use technology more effectively.

This isn't a typical internship. You'll work alongside experts in learning design, behavior change, AI adoption, content creation, and product development while contributing to meaningful projects that support customers around the world.

We're looking for responsible, curious, AI-native students who are eager to learn, take ownership, and make an impact. You don't need prior experience in our field, but experience with Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Adobe Creative Cloud, AI tools, or other productivity technologies is a plus.

Coordinating calendars is nobody's idea of a good time, so we built a faster path.

After you apply, you'll get an email with a link to a quick screening conversation with our AI recruiting assistant - about 10 minutes, on your schedule, no back-and-forth needed. It covers the same ground as a standard screening call: the role, your background, and what you're looking for.

A member of our team reviews every conversation before any decision is made. You're not being evaluated by an algorithm - you're just skipping the scheduling dance.

As a BrainStorm Intern, you'll do things like:
  • Use AI and modern productivity tools to accelerate learning, problem-solving, and build solutions
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of learning content and digital learning experiences
  • Assist with research related to learning, change management, and AI adoption
  • Help ensure the quality and accuracy of customer-facing content
  • Support projects involving data analysis, process improvement, or content production
  • Collaborate with team members across a variety of initiatives
What We're Looking For:

Ownership & Responsibility
You follow through on commitments, communicate proactively, and can be trusted to manage your work effectively.

Hunger to Learn
You seek feedback, ask thoughtful questions, and look for opportunities to grow.

AI-Native Mindset
You are comfortable using AI and modern technology to learn, solve problems, and increase your effectiveness.

Flexibility & Adaptability
You can balance competing priorities, learn new tools quickly, and adjust as needs evolve.

Attention to Detail
You take pride in producing high-quality work that reflects BrainStorm's standards.

Collaboration
You work well with others, contribute to discussions, and communicate professionally.

Commitment

Up to 20 hours per week
   September through December
In-person at our American Fork, Utah office

Many of BrainStorm's strongest full-time employees started as interns. We view this internship as an opportunity to identify, develop, and invest in future team members.
