Job description

  • Position Summary
    • Is accountable for the Laboratory Outreach Services. As a result of this responsibility, may be contacted on a 24-hour basis for professional opinions. Organizes the department workflow daily through the assignment of duties to co-workers in such a manner as to achieve daily goals. Knowledgeable of patient registration to include billing and laboratory test procedures with defined automated procedures, calculations and/or indicators that are age dependent (adults, children, adolescents, neonate and geriatric patients). Supervises sendout testing procedures . Responsible for training personnel. Maintains departmental inventory and orders as needed. Must stay abreast of advancements in his/her field. Is responsible for recognizing and implementing additional services to his/her department through collaboration with the Outreach Business Manager, as trends in technology, instrumentation and physician ordering patterns suggest the need. Must set goals and objectives for the department. Evaluates supervised personnel. Assumes responsibility of Outreach Business Manager in their absence.

  • Core Job Functions
    • Organizes daily workload and personnel to achieve acceptable quality standards, recognizing weak areas and implementing appropriate additions to training. Monitors turn-around times of specimens oversees send out testing and deliveries to collection locations. Adapts readily to changes in workload and stressful situations, demonstrating confident and supportive behavior.
    • Serves as a resource to clients and prospects for telephone communication and prompt problem solving, assisting clients in use of requisitions, forms, client reference manual, and supply ordering- monitoring their utilization. Oversees the development of courier routes, coordinates dispatch of couriers for routine and STAT specimen pick up and delivery of reports and supplies and reviews courier logs. Monitors and assigns courier vehicle maintenance as needed.
    • Assists clients and patients with billing needs, coordinating follow up for incomplete billing information and overdue client accounts. Works closely with the sales representative to communicate new sales opportunities and keeps the Outreach Business Manager appraised of trends and shifts in the marketplace. Makes periodic service calls to clients as needed or as requested.
    • Perform, delegates and documents training of each new co-workers through formal orientation program and on-going competency assessment. Perform evaluation of supervised co-workers and conduct ongoing reviews. Provides director approved written procedures as needed and according to standards set by regulatory agencies.
    • Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement monitoring and evaluation as requested. Reviews and monitors to assess and identify on-going problems so that effective resolutions can occur. Outreach Business Manager of on-going problems, and provides suggestions and solutions to problems.
