Job description

Employees hired on or before October 1 qualify to receive:

  • $250 New hire bonus after Semester 1 completion (December paycheck)
  • $750 New hire bonus after Semester 2 completion (May final paycheck)
  • Total New hire Bonus: $1,000

This position is for the 2026-2027 school year. 

Job Summary:  The duties performed by a kitchen aide are broad and flexible. Assists the kitchen manager to ensure that a quality, nutritious, cost effective meal program is available daily to students and staff.
New Hire Starting Hourly rate: Grade 3: $17.59 - $19.59 DOE 
Internal Hourly Rate: Determined by the ESSA Negotiated Agreement
Work Hours: Start times vary depending on individual school sites, but most positions work between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Work Year: 9 months
Bargaining Unit: Education Support Staff Association (ESSA)






Job Qualifications/Requirements (please review job description for qualifications and duties of the position):

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Mathematical skills including basic calculations.
  3. Basic knowledge of computer and keyboarding skills to include Microsoft Office and Google Suite products, as well as basic troubleshooting.
  4. Ability to work with detailed information/data and maintain strict confidentiality of written and oral information and records.
  5. Per DEC regulations, must have or be able to pass Food Handlers course 30 days after hire and maintain the card.
