Job description

Job Title: Park Associate Landscape

Job Status: Part Time – Non-Exempt

Department: Park and Recreation Services

Primary Work Location: Parks and Facility Services Building

Reports To: Horticulturist and Turf Foreman

Supervisory Responsibility: None

Position Summary                                                                                                                                  
The Seasonal Park Associate is responsible for daily upkeep of the parks, working with assigned team leader. Anticipated work will begin starting in June, and last through the end of August. The normal workweek shall be designated by the Superintendent of Park and Facility Services as necessary to properly perform the duties of the job.  The position requires 32-40 hours per week between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The schedule is flexible and may require some Saturdays and Sundays.

Essential Job Duties                                                                                                                               
•    Operates hand and power tools.
•    Cleans, provides preventative maintenance, and simple repairs of maintenance equipment.
•    Plants trees, shrubs, flowers, and installs retaining walls, and other landscape materials.
•    Performs custodial cleaning, grass mowing, and general park and building maintenance and construction.
•    Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District Employee Handbook, policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
•    Performs construction and maintenance of athletic fields and special event facilities including but not limited to:  temporary fencing, installing and grading infield clay/sand loam, tent/seating set- ups, moving bleachers, soccer goal assembly and repair, drain tile installation and floodwater pumping.
•    Assists staff with maintenance and construction of pavements, buildings, plumbing, carpentry, electrical and lighting, furnaces, ducts, pipe lines, water lines, shelters, benches, playground equipment, signs, fencing, sewers, and drainage structures, asphalt, concrete and brick paving, stone paths, etc.  
•    Operates equipment and machinery. 
•    Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District Employee Handbook, policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
•    Participates in required training and safety programs as established by the Wheeling Park District.
•    Supports and exhibits the organizational values of respect, communication, integrity, innovation, recognition and appreciation, continuous learning, fun, empowerment and people.
•    Performs special projects or other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements
Prefer High School Graduate, experience and or knowledge in related field of property and facility maintenance and repairs. Knowledge of landscape and grounds maintenance tools, equipment, shop, and field practices. Should be in good physical condition and have sufficient strength to do minimal amount of lifting. Demonstrate initiative, dependability, punctuality and ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely positive manner. Must be able to work cooperatively with Park staff.

Skills and Abilities
Demonstrate consistent attendance and on-time arrival.
Must be able to read, write and speak in English.
CPR/AED certification or be able to earn within 60 days.

Specific vision abilities are required and include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
May need to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Working Conditions
Most activities will be performed indoors.
Driving to other park facilities will require the worker to be outside.
Employee may be exposed to cleaning agents and toner chemicals.
