Plant Overview:

  • Non-union plant employing 280 employees across 3 shifts.
  • Purchased in 1934 from Breyer's Ice Cream and began producing caramel in 1935.
  • Began producing Marshmallows and Marshmallow Creme in 1961 and Marbits (think dehydrated marshmallows found in cereal) in 1979.
  • Kendallville is the sole producer of all our product lines.

Community Overview:

  • Kendallville is located about 30 minutes north of Fort Wayne and offers a small-town community.

Under the direction of the Process Owner and with the support of management staff, the employee will follow these job descriptions as it relates to the job title. The employee will own results for clean inspect and lube, centerline management system, 5S system, integrity of process data and the Oscar scrap elimination system. This employee will actively participate in annual planning, weekly reviews/PDCA meetings, Daily Level 1 and Level 2 meetings.

This employee will assist in development of center line definition and associated standard development. Develop control strategies to enable operators to respond to out-of-control situations. Leads root cause problem solving efforts on key losses in the process. Coach's teams on CIL, CLM, 5S, and Oscar systems execution. Coaches and develops teams by building critical thinking skills within the process.

Qualifications:

  • Initiative-taking and strong drive for results.
  • Lift 50 pounds.
  • Able to work in hot/humid conditions as well as areas that may contain starch/dust particles and egg.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing and/or food processing, quality standards, hygiene, work safety, etc. preferred.
  • Prolonged periods working on feet and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
  • Strong planning/organizational and communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment with people of varying skills and backgrounds.
  • Manage line performance across multiple lines.
  • Ensure line staffing needs are met through creating/managing schedules and overtime coverage.
  • Improve the capability of your team through coaching and training.
  • Ensure that the finished product is always produced at the correct quality in a sustainable manner.
  • Ensure all safety and quality procedures are followed daily.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement of systems and results.
  • Own the team shift plan and support team members as needed.
  • Organizes resources and manages flow to work throughout the shift as needed.
  • Provides input to employees work plans as needed to ensure their shift develops and delivers as needed.
  • Participate in and ensure the team results and needs are captured in all DDS meetings.
  • Participates in team daily/weekly/monthly reviews with leadership.
  • Meets regularly with individuals being coached to share observations and to identify help needed.
  • Actively engage other leaders to identify and eliminate critical barriers to progress.
  • Emphasizes implementation of root cause systemic countermeasures to address losses.
  • Recognizes and celebrates successes.
  • Requests resources for the team/line as needed.
  • Lead/facilitate Level 2 meetings.
  • Proactively engaged with providing updates to previous and following shifts.
  • Communicate all line personnel performance issues with Production Supervisor.
  • Drive the improvement of line effectiveness and quality measures.
  • Coordinates product changeovers according to production schedule.
  • Analyzes downtime and equipment failures. Plans, as well as documents line/process repairs. Prioritize needs with Maintenance Lead.
  • Assist in implementing Kraft Heinz Management System.

Other requirements:

  • Capable of learning intermediate Microsoft excel, Power point, Word, SAP, and ZPI skills.
  • Strong planning/interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Understanding of requirements and importance of documentation.
  • Can understand and write SOPs, OPLs and CIL's.
  • Project ideation, generation, implementation, and project completion.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment with people of varying skills and backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures i.e. (lock-out / tag-out, confined space entry).
  • Understanding of requirement and importance of documentation.
