Our client is a North American leader in advanced battery technologies, delivering backup power and energy-storage solutions across critical markets including data centers and UPS applications, telecom and outside-plant reserve power, and utility-scale and commercial and industrial battery energy storage systems (BESS). They build high-quality, turn-key integrated systems and modular components, and they are growing their product engineering team.

This is a senior, hands-on design role with ownership of advanced lithium-ion battery system development from concept through commercialization. You will create innovative, manufacturable, and compliant battery pack designs, integrating electrical, mechanical, and thermal systems into robust products. If you have strong 3D CAD expertise, an electromechanical engineering background, and direct experience designing lithium-ion battery packs, this is the role.

Key Responsibilities Design & Development

  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and assemblies
  • Generate 2D drawings, GD&T, BOMs, and manufacturing documentation
  • Perform thermal and structural design considerations across the product
Cross-Functional Engineering
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers on cell selection, BMS integration, and wiring architecture
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and validation
  • Work with manufacturing teams to ensure DFM and DFA principles are met
  • Participate in supplier selection and evaluation
Compliance & Lifecycle
  • Ensure compliance with UL, IEC, and NFPA standards
  • Manage engineering changes and product lifecycle documentation
Qualifications Required

  • Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD modeling is a must
  • Strong understanding of materials and manufacturing processes
  • Familiarity with electrical integration and BMS systems
  • Knowledge of safety and compliance standards
Preferred
  • Experience with thermal simulation tools (ANSYS, COMSOL)
  • Background in energy storage systems
  • Experience with sheet metal, plastics, and injection molding
  • Familiarity with IP ratings and environmental protection design
  • Experience supporting UL 9540, UL 1973, or UL 2580 compliance
Key Skills & Traits for Success
  • 3D modeling and drawing standards
  • Problem-solving and root cause analysis
  • Cross-functional collaboration
  • Self-starter who can work independently and in the field
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on safety and quality
  • Adaptable and comfortable in fast-paced environments
Working Conditions
  • Frequent travel to customer sites (regional or national)
  • Ability to lift and move equipment (up to 50 lbs)
  • Work in industrial, data center, or outdoor environments as needed
