Job description

Our client, a growing civil-engineering and surveying team in the Indianapolis area is seeking an experienced Surveyor to support boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction staking projects across central Indiana. This role is hands-on, field-focused, and ideal for someone who takes pride in accuracy, efficiency, and craftsmanship.
The Surveyor works closely with project managers, CAD staff, and field crews to deliver precise field data and high-quality survey products from mobilization through final deliverables.
$75,000 - $90,000 a year
Key Responsibilities

โ€ข Research plats, deeds, easements, and county records to support boundary determinations
โ€ข Coordinate with CAD technicians to ensure accurate translation of field data
โ€ข Lead field crew operations, equipment logistics, and daily mobilization
โ€ข Document field conditions, anomalies, and findings in clear field notes and reports
โ€ข Ensure compliance with Indiana survey law and professional standards
โ€ข Track project progress and communicate schedule or scope issues proactively
Minimum Requirements
โ€ข 3+ years of professional field surveying experience
โ€ข Proficiency with total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and electronic data collectors
โ€ข Ability to read and interpret legal descriptions, plats, and deed documents
โ€ข Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
โ€ข Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and terrain
Preferred Qualifications
โ€ข Indiana Licensed Land Surveyor (LS) or LSIT actively pursuing licensure
โ€ข Experience with Trimble or Leica equipment and related software
โ€ข Familiarity with central Indiana survey records (Boone, Hamilton, etc.)
โ€ข Construction staking experience for land development projects
โ€ข Ability to mentor or lead a survey technician or two-person crew
What Makes an Ideal Candidate
โ€ข Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
โ€ข Dependable, field-ready, and methodical in both work and documentation
โ€ข Proactive communicator who flags issues before they become downstream problems
โ€ข Organized field notes and consistent reporting habits
โ€ข Reliable and punctual - understands that field schedules depend on the crew
โ€ข Sees surveying as a craft and takes ownership of the quality of their work
Standout Qualities
โ€ข Active Indiana LS license with the ability to stamp deliverables
โ€ข Experience managing survey projects from records research through final plat
โ€ข Familiarity with county recorder and surveyor systems in central Indiana
โ€ข Demonstrated leadership of field crews or mentorship of junior technicians

The work is varied, your contributions are visible, and strong performance is rewarded through a project-based incentive structure. For a licensed or license-track surveyor who wants ownership, autonomy, and a direct line to leadership, this role offers a meaningful next step.
Benefits: Health Plan, Vision, Dental
