Our Lead Wind Technicians are a vital part of our organization, and we take pride in hiring and training the best in the industry. This is a full-time, permanent position with significant room for advancement. This is the highest technician level. This is a leadership level of the wind classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve complex problems, manage work, and provide leadership to others in technical areas of specialization with minimal supervision and increased latitude for unreviewed work. Incumbent functions in lead roles providing guidance to others. They are also expected to have advanced skills and have the ability to work independently.

We are looking for a Lead Wind Technician to maintain all aspects of our turbines, and BOP (e.g., electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, etc.).

The physical work location is at the Los Vientos III, IV, V Wind: 200 FM 490 Rio Grande City Tx, 78582.

Responsibilities

  • Leads crews of technicians to complete required duties

  • Interact directly with the customer as directed by the manager.

  • Train and mentor employees as directed by the manager.

  • Perform operations, planned maintenance, and unplanned maintenance on sub-station equipment.

  • Troubleshooting warranty issues

  • Daily, weekly, monthly reporting needs

  • Work as scheduled during the week and on call as needed or required by manager

  • Act as the backup to the active manager

  • Assist management (as needed) with vendor contractual and activities, landowner agreements, and ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations

  • Always maintain a high level of safety awareness

  • Climb heights 300 ft. and greater several times daily

  • Diagnose and resolve faults on turbines as they relate to mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems

  • Perform troubleshooting to identify the root cause of an issue and perform corrective actions or open a service case with equipment manufacturer

  • Perform energy isolation in accordance with all Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures

  • Perform pad mounted Transformer switching in accordance with all Hazardous Energy Controls Procedures

  • Perform small or large corrective tasks on wind turbines

  • Perform preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, performance monitoring and evaluation

  • Maintaining all aspects (e.g., electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) of turbines in a safe, high quality, and efficient manner

  • Maintain EH&S Documentation and complete necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary) within Maximo

Basic Qualifications

  • High School/GED

  • External Candidates - In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (6+) years of related work experience.

  • Must pass required Turbine Technician I and Electrical Operator I&II JPMs within the probationary period.

  • Internal Candidates - In addition to the High School/GED requirement, (3+) year of technical experience with DerivaEnergy as a Wind Technician.

  • Must also have Turbine Technician-1 and Electrical Operator 1&2 JPM Completed

Desired Qualifications

  • AAS degree or certification in Wind/Renewable Energy or applicable field of study.

  • Experience with Vestas V82 and V90 turbines

  • Experience with multiple wind turbine supplier technologies

  • High voltage and substation maintenance experience

  • Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.e., voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools)

  • Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance and working knowledge of crane and rigging requirements

  • Competent with Maximo EZ Max mobile work and My Time management systems

  • Microsoft Office Including Excel/Word/PowerPoint

  • CPR and AED Training Certification

  • TSL tower climber and rescue & EEM training

  • Forklift certified
