Job description

Job Summary:

The Director – Typhoon Geophysics is a senior technical leadership position within Ivanhoe Electric’s Exploration team, leading deployment of Ivanhoe Electric’s proprietary Typhoon DC-IP survey technologies and geophysics personnel across IE’s global portfolio of projects to drive exploration discoveries.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design/budgeting, execution, and evaluation of Ivanhoe Electric Typhoon DC-IP surveys across the global exploration project portfolio. Development and implementation of geophysical safety standards and procedures to meet the company’s safety goals.
  • Management of multiple operational teams in multiple locations.
  • Training and development of staff.
  • Undertake data analysis and modelling of Typhoon DC-IP and other geophysical datasets.
  • Coordinate data inversions with Computational Geosciences Inc.
  • Proactively communicate with other IVNE geoscientists, local technical staff and management on a regular basis to report and interpret geophysical results.
  • Ensure that best practices are utilized across IVNE’s exploration programs.
  • Keep abreast of new geophysical developments, including industry, government, and academic research and activities, to ensure that leading-edge geophysical technologies are applied to our exploration programs.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Commitment to implementing the highest operational and technical safety standards.
  • Experience developing budgets and managing remote technical teams.
  • Specific experience with the acquisition, processing, inversion and interpretation of Induced Polarization and Electromagnetic datasets.
  • Extensive knowledge of potential field data collection and processing methodologies, including both ground and airborne surveys.
  • Demonstrated experience in the presentation of geophysical data in 2D and 3D using Oasis Montaj, Geoscience ANALYST and other specialist software. Geophysical inversion experience using SimPEG Python codes is viewed favorably.
  • Sound understanding of geological processes and the formation of mineral deposits. Preference will be given to those who have participated in a successful exploration campaign.
  • Working knowledge of the major ore deposit types (e.g. Porphyry Copper, Sedimentary Hosted Cu, VMS, Epithermal) and applicable exploration methods.
  • Leadership and management of remote and culturally diverse workforces.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Education & Experience

  • Minimum BSc (Hons) in Geophysics or related discipline and 10-15 years industry experience. Relevant post-graduate studies may also count towards industry experience.
  • Ability to be registered with the EGBC as professional geoscientist is viewed favorably.

Core Competencies

  • Deep understanding porphyry copper systems and relevant geophysical exploration techniques both for subtle outcropping and blind undercover targets.
  • Leadership, mentorship and team development.
  • Strong communication with technical and non-technical audiences.

Work Environment & Travel

  • Field visits to remote project locations are required to support Typhoon programs, including an expectation to be onsite at projects.
  • Eligible to work in the United States.
  • Candidate can live anywhere in the US or Canada.
