Description

Your role at GEI. 

The Madison, Wisconsin office of GEI Consultants, Inc. (GEI) is seeking a Staff Professional with a background in civil, geotechnical, structural, or water resources engineering.  Under supervision of senior staff, this individual will provide support to ongoing field and engineering design and construction efforts.  Projects may include those related to dams and hydropower facilities, excavation support systems, building foundations, tunnels, solid waste landfills, and site development.  Candidate will provide office support, data management, and technical report development.  Field activities will include coordination and documentation of geotechnical soil borings; installation of wells and geotechnical instrumentation; and oversight and documentation during construction.  Activities may also include inspections, permitting and creation of record documents for dams, structures, and landfills. 

Essential Responsibilities & Duties 

  • Support services in one or more of the following engineering disciplines: Geotechnical Engineering (Slope Stability, Seepage, Foundations), Structural (Excavations Support, Concrete/Steel Structures, Tunnel Reinforcement), Solid Waste (Landfill Design and Construction Quality Assurance), Civil Engineering (Site Development), or Water Resources (Hydrology and Hydraulics).
  • Support the development of decision-making documents such as feasibility studies and cost estimates, design and procurement documents such as engineering drawings and specification packages, and tools for contractor bid evaluation and oversight.
  • Support site investigations and site assessments including soil borings and testing, facility inspections, sampling of concrete and soil; and technical oversight of subcontractors.
  • Collect geotechnical/structural data at sites.
  • Support data management and engineering analysis, technical report development, and assist in preparation of technical presentations and proposals to clients and regulators.
  • Perform construction observation and documentation, materials testing services, and data collection for dams, landfills, buildings, and other infrastructure projects.  
  • This position has a field component, so travel for extended durations may be required. Candidates should be prepared to work in inclement conditions. 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • B.S. in Civil, Structural, Geotechnical Engineering, or related degree; M.S. is desirable.
  • E.I.T. is desirable, and ability to work towards professional registration.
  • 0-4 years of previous professional experience in civil/geotechnical/structural engineering and consulting; knowledge and familiarity with engineering design processes.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with technical analysis software, MS Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, and other computer applications.  CAD, Civil 3D, and Revit experience is desirable.
  • Experience with geotechnical analysis software, such as GeoStudio (SEEP/W, SLOPE/W or SIGMA/W), and analysis and design software (ENERCALC, MathCAD, SAP2000, STAAD, RISA), is desirable.  
  • Ability to work well alone and in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for short-term and long-term field assignments as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to perform field tasks and oversight.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license.
