What are Stack Software Engineers?

Stack Software Engineers, often referred to as Full Stack Software Engineers, are professionals who have expertise in both front-end and back-end development of software applications. They are capable of working on all layers of a software stack, including databases, servers, APIs, and user interfaces. This versatility enables them to take a project from concept to completion, handling both the client-facing and server-side aspects. Stack Software Engineers are in high demand due to their broad skill set and ability to collaborate across different parts of a development team.

Is Fullstack a good career?

Fullstack development is a viable career path that involves working with both frontend and backend technologies, often requiring knowledge of programming languages, frameworks, and databases. It offers diverse job opportunities, competitive salaries, and the chance to work on complete projects, making it a popular choice for many software developers.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Senior software engineers, especially those working at large tech companies or in specialized fields like machine learning or cloud infrastructure, can earn $500,000 or more annually. High compensation often includes base salary, bonuses, and stock options, and typically requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and sometimes leadership roles.

How does a Stack Software Engineer typically collaborate with other teams during the development process?

Stack Software Engineers work closely with various teams, including front-end and back-end developers, designers, QA testers, and product managers. They participate in agile ceremonies, code reviews, and sprint planning sessions to ensure alignment on project goals and technical implementation. Collaboration often involves frequent communication to troubleshoot issues, integrate new features, and optimize existing systems. This cross-functional teamwork is essential for delivering robust, user-friendly software solutions that meet business objectives.

Will Fullstack be replaced by AI?

Fullstack developers perform a range of tasks involving both frontend and backend coding, and while AI tools can assist with coding and automation, they are unlikely to fully replace the need for human developers who require problem-solving, creativity, and understanding of complex systems. AI can enhance productivity but does not currently replace the comprehensive skill set of a fullstack developer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Stack Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Stack Software Engineer, you need strong proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, or Java, along with a solid understanding of both front-end and back-end development. Experience with frameworks (like React or Node.js), version control systems (such as Git), and database management is typically expected, and certifications in relevant technologies can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help you work effectively within agile teams and deliver robust solutions. These skills ensure you can build, maintain, and scale full-stack applications efficiently, meeting project goals and user needs.

What is a full-stack salary?

A full-stack software developer's salary varies based on experience, location, and company size, but typically ranges from $70,000 to $120,000 annually in many regions. Salaries tend to be higher for those with expertise in both front-end and back-end technologies, such as JavaScript frameworks, databases, and cloud services.

Job description

Description:

About IdeaTek

At IdeaTek, we are Internet Freedom Fighters. For over 25 years, we’ve been moving fast, thinking big, and breaking down barriers to progress by deploying thousands of miles of state-of-the-art fiber-optic infrastructure across Kansas. We are a homegrown, entrepreneurial, and fiercely resilient team named to the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies multiple times. We believe that rural communities deserve the same blazing-fast, future-proof internet as big cities.

To fuel our next massive wave of growth, we are looking for a bold, meticulous, and forward-thinking VP of Accounting and Finance to lead our financial infrastructure.

Position Overview

As the VP of Accounting and Finance, you will be the strategic architect behind our financial reporting, internal controls, and corporate fiscal health. In this high-impact executive role, you will bridge the gap between complex tactical accounting and high-level corporate finance.

You will lead, mentor, and scale our finance function, as well as partnering closely with the Corporate Controller and VP of Strategy to ensure seamless operations as we aggressively expand our fiber network. This includes overseeing everything from GAAP compliance and multi-million-dollar capital expenditure (CapEx) tracking to federal/state grant reporting and debt facility compliance. The leadership component of this role will be critical.

What You’ll Do

Key responsibilities include:

Financial Leadership & Strategy

  • Executive Collaboration: Partner closely with the VP of Strategy and the Executive Team to translate complex financial metrics into actionable business growth, territory expansion plans, and risk-mitigation initiatives.
  • Accounting Partnership: Work hand-in-hand with the Corporate Controller to align day-to-day accounting operations, tax strategies, and internal controls with long-term financial forecasting.
  • Team Scaling: Manage, mentor, and inspire the accounting and finance departments, fostering an environment of continuous learning, professional growth, and high accountability.
  • Process Automation: Spearhead the optimization and modernization of our financial tech stack, scaling internal workflows to support high-speed company growth.

Technical Accounting & Compliance

  • Financial Reporting: Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. Deliver flawless, GAAP-compliant financial statements to the Executive Team, board members, and lenders.
  • Capital Asset Accounting: Ensure tight controls over complex fixed-asset accounting workflows tailored to telecommunications infrastructure (e.g., depreciation, inventory management, field deployment mapping).

Corporate Finance & Treasury

  • CapEx & Grant Tracking: Provide strict financial stewardship over major capital investments and federal/state broadband grants (e.g., CPF, BEAD, or infrastructure allocations). Ensure impeccable compliance with spending guidelines.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Drive the annual budgeting process and construct fluid, rolling financial models that forecast cash flow, capital demands, and ROI on new territory expansions.
  • Treasury Management: Manage working capital, corporate debt covenants, and credit facilities to ensure the business optimizes its liquidity.

What We’re Looking For

To be considered for this role, you'll need the following required qualifications:

  • Experience: 8+ years of progressive financial management and accounting experience, with 3+ years in a director-level or VP-level capacity.
  • Technical Mastery: Deep expertise in US GAAP, advanced corporate financial modeling, and experience scaling enterprise accounting software (ERP systems).
  • Leadership Style: A "roll-up-your-sleeves" leadership style that thrives in an entrepreneurial, matrixed, and fast-paced setting.

What Will Help You Stand Out

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Credential: Active CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license is highly preferred.
  • Industry Background: Strong preference for experience in capital-intensive industries such as Telecommunications, Broadband Infrastructure, Utilities, or Heavy Construction.
  • Public Funding Mastery: Proven background managing state and federal grant allocations alongside rigorous reporting and compliance standards.
  • Capital Financing: Prior exposure to high-level equity structures or sophisticated corporate debt and credit facility management.

Why Join IdeaTek?

IdeaTek is a cutting-edge telecommunications company dedicated to bringing fast, reliable internet to underserved communities. We're a passionate team of innovators and problem-solvers committed to making a difference in the lives of our customers. At IdeaTek, we value our employees and foster a culture of collaboration, growth, and community involvement.

  • The Basics: Highly competitive salary, generous performance bonus plans, and a robust 401(k) with company match.
  • Health & Wellness: Comprehensive healthcare coverage with multiple deductible options, Free Direct Primary Care (DPC) options, HSA/FSA plans, and a subsidized gym membership.
  • Work/Life Integration: Flexible time off policies, accommodating work schedules, and paid parental leave.
  • The Fun Stuff: A relaxed, casual dress work environment, and fully stocked healthy drinks and snacks at the office.
  • IdeaTek Perk: Free high-speed home internet (if within our service footprint)!
  • Growth: Individualized strength assessments, tuition, and certification reimbursement.

Our Core Values
