What are Stack Software Engineers?

Stack Software Engineers, often referred to as Full Stack Software Engineers, are professionals who have expertise in both front-end and back-end development of software applications. They are capable of working on all layers of a software stack, including databases, servers, APIs, and user interfaces. This versatility enables them to take a project from concept to completion, handling both the client-facing and server-side aspects. Stack Software Engineers are in high demand due to their broad skill set and ability to collaborate across different parts of a development team.

Is Fullstack a good career?

Fullstack development is a viable career path that involves working with both frontend and backend technologies, often requiring knowledge of programming languages, frameworks, and databases. It offers diverse job opportunities, competitive salaries, and the chance to work on complete projects, making it a popular choice for many software developers.

What engineer makes $500,000 a year?

Senior software engineers, especially those working at large tech companies or in specialized fields like machine learning or cloud infrastructure, can earn $500,000 or more annually. High compensation often includes base salary, bonuses, and stock options, and typically requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and sometimes leadership roles.

How does a Stack Software Engineer typically collaborate with other teams during the development process?

Stack Software Engineers work closely with various teams, including front-end and back-end developers, designers, QA testers, and product managers. They participate in agile ceremonies, code reviews, and sprint planning sessions to ensure alignment on project goals and technical implementation. Collaboration often involves frequent communication to troubleshoot issues, integrate new features, and optimize existing systems. This cross-functional teamwork is essential for delivering robust, user-friendly software solutions that meet business objectives.

Will Fullstack be replaced by AI?

Fullstack developers perform a range of tasks involving both frontend and backend coding, and while AI tools can assist with coding and automation, they are unlikely to fully replace the need for human developers who require problem-solving, creativity, and understanding of complex systems. AI can enhance productivity but does not currently replace the comprehensive skill set of a fullstack developer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Stack Software Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Stack Software Engineer, you need strong proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, or Java, along with a solid understanding of both front-end and back-end development. Experience with frameworks (like React or Node.js), version control systems (such as Git), and database management is typically expected, and certifications in relevant technologies can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help you work effectively within agile teams and deliver robust solutions. These skills ensure you can build, maintain, and scale full-stack applications efficiently, meeting project goals and user needs.

What is a full-stack salary?

A full-stack software developer's salary varies based on experience, location, and company size, but typically ranges from $70,000 to $120,000 annually in many regions. Salaries tend to be higher for those with expertise in both front-end and back-end technologies, such as JavaScript frameworks, databases, and cloud services.

Job description

Role Overview
Full-Stack Software Engineer
As a Full‑Stack Software Engineer at Hello Patient, you'll design, build, and scale the end‑to‑end systems that power Mia, our AI assistant for healthcare practices. From real‑time voice and messaging services to EHR integrations and admin dashboards, you'll ship production‑ready code across the stack, own features from concept to deployment, and help set engineering best practices in a hyper‑growth, compliance‑critical environment.
Location: Austin, TX or NYC
Reports to: CTO
Type: Full‑time, exempt
Key Responsibilities
  • Feature Development. Deliver user‑facing functionality in NextJS/TypeScript while crafting robust, testable APIs in Python/FastAPI. Translate product specs into end‑to‑end experiences that delight clinic staff, patients, and our implementation team.
  • System Architecture & Scalability. Design and optimize backend systems that support high-volume, low-latency voice, SMS, and chat traffic. Optimize for reliability, horizontal scaling, and efficient token usage with LLM back‑ends.
  • Data & Integrations. Build secure integrations with EHR/PM systems via FHIR, HL7, and custom APIs. Implement data pipelines and storage solutions (PostgreSQL, Redis, S3, and more) that respect HIPAA and SOC‑2 controls.
  • DevOps & CI/CD. Own your code in production: write infrastructure‑as‑code in Terraform and Helm, automate tests, and monitor metrics. Champion a culture of frequent, reliable production deployments through robust CI/CD pipelines.
  • Quality & Security. Write unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests; conduct code reviews to uphold performance, readability, and security standards. Collaborate with compliance teams to embed encryption, logging, and auditability from day one.
  • Collaboration & Mentorship. Work closely with internal teams to iterate quickly and prioritize user impact. Share knowledge via design docs; mentor junior engineers as the team scales.

Qualifications
Must‑Haves
  • 4+ yrs professional experience building and shipping full‑stack web applications.
  • Proficiency with modern TypeScript on client (React, Next.js) and Python on server
  • AI-native: You use AI tools daily to architect, build, and debug fullstack features, moving quickly from idea to production with minimal hand-holding. You automate grunt work, document as you go, and ship clean, scalable code fast.
  • Strong grasp of relational databases and REST API design; comfortable optimizing queries and indexing strategies.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Solid understanding of testing strategies, CI/CD workflows, and Git‑based collaboration.
  • Clear communication skills and a bias for action.

Nice‑to‑Haves
  • Exposure to healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7) or other high‑compliance domains.
  • Experience integrating/fine‑tuning LLMs, building RAG pipelines, designing agent architecture, voice agents
  • Familiarity with event-driven architecture or real-time streaming.
  • Prior work at an early‑stage startup where you wore multiple hats and influenced product direction.

Note that compensation will vary greatly based on level and years of experience.
Why You'll Love Working Here
  • Real Impact - Help healthcare teams cut hours of admin work and focus more on patient care.
  • Early-Stage Ownership - Join a well-funded startup where you'll own meaningful projects from day one.
  • Agency to Drive Outcomes - You'll have the freedom to make decisions, move fast, and see your work directly shape results.
  • Collaborative Team Environment - Work alongside founders who've scaled healthcare products and infrastructure nationally.
  • Values-Driven Culture - We operate with empathy, trust, and curiosity in every decision.
  • Great Benefits - Competitive pay, equity, PTO, and comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Fast Growth - Build category-defining technology and grow your skills quickly in a high-impact environment.
