Stack Software Engineers, often referred to as Full Stack Software Engineers, are professionals who have expertise in both front-end and back-end development of software applications. They are capable of working on all layers of a software stack, including databases, servers, APIs, and user interfaces. This versatility enables them to take a project from concept to completion, handling both the client-facing and server-side aspects. Stack Software Engineers are in high demand due to their broad skill set and ability to collaborate across different parts of a development team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a stack software engineer?

To thrive as a Stack Software Engineer, you need strong proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, or Java, along with a solid understanding of both front-end and back-end development. Experience with frameworks (like React or Node.js), version control systems (such as Git), and database management is typically expected, and certifications in relevant technologies can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help you work effectively within agile teams and deliver robust solutions. These skills ensure you can build, maintain, and scale full-stack applications efficiently, meeting project goals and user needs.

Job description

Born at MIT, Infinite Cooling is eliminating cooling bottlenecks across critical industries: In data centers, we unlock compute capacity by reducing cooling power needs. In power plants and industrial facilities, we increase output by lowering process temperatures.

Our AI-driven software platform, TowerPulse™™, uses proprietary Multiphysics AI algorithms trained on large sets of real customer data to continuously monitor and optimize cooling tower performance, boosting cooling capacity while reducing energy, water, and maintenance costs.

We are a venture-backed startup based in the Boston area, with over $20M raised. We have a growing base of customers and proven deployments, and we are now scaling our commercial team to accelerate growth.

About the Role

We are looking for a sharp, tenacious, and creative Full-Stack Software Engineer to join our team and build our platform. The software team manages the entire stack – from building and integrating novel models with R&D, to sculpting and maintaining our database infrastructure for scaling requirements, to deployment of production features for our front-end and customer integrations. Strong communication, flexibility, and the desire to "wear many hats" will all be essential skills for a successful applicant.

What you will do
  • Take ownership over software development and driving early-stage MVPs
  • Build, debug, test, release, and maintain software applications hosted in a cloud environment that process and analyze large amounts of data from IIoT sensors
  • Design and develop resilient systems and front-end components for a customer-facing web application
  • Develop, maintain, and deploy software for Edge Computing, and Cloud hosted applications including associated DevOps tasks
  • Champion best practices with version control, CI/CD, unit and integration testing, code reviews, and writing clean, maintainable code
  • Develop on-premises architectures parallel to current cloud-based environments to run full IoT stack in sensitive computing environments.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related fields
  • Experience designing implementing cloud-based services in either AWS (preferred), Google Cloud Platform or Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with time-series databases and time-series data engineering architectural patterns
  • Experience improving developer experience/tooling and providing technical support to teammates
  • Experience with hardware-software integration
  • Experience with embedded & edge runtimes
  • Experience with MQTT
  • Extensive experience using AI-assisted coding environments
  • DevOps experience with cloud hosted applications and databases
  • Thorough understanding of distributed systems, designing for scalability, performance, and availability
  • Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL database systems
  • Experience with software development tools such as Git, Jenkins, and JIRA
  • Experience with Agile / Scrum methodology
