Job description

POSITION DURATION:

This is a six-month remote contract role with hourly compensation. There is potential to extend or convert to full-time based on performance and business needs.

POSITION SUMMARY: 

As a Software Engineer, Full Stack you will design, develop, and maintain full-stack software applications, APIs, and data services that support our Sample Management and analytics platform. You have experience building user-facing web applications and have a passion for great user experience with a great eye for design. You're comfortable leveraging APIs and services, local and cloud-based, to deliver these experiences to users. You'll use these skills, along with tools like React, TypeScript, Python, FastAPI, Snowflake, dbt, AWS (ECS Fargate, Lambda, S3), and AWS CDK. Together with the talented Engineering Team, Product Managers and Designers, you will work on new and exciting experiences for our customers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the architecture and product teams to drive complex system design
  • Perform code reviews and mentor the development team with best practices
  • Make key design and technical implementation decisions on complex systems and help guide engineering vision
  • Work closely with stakeholders to define requirements, and transform them into highly scalable and reliable, developer-friendly REST microservice APIs
  • Design, build, and maintain highly sustainable systems to support our business applications, including data pipelines and analytics services on Snowflake

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of overall software development experience, preferably secure, scalable web applications with frontend and backend web technologies

The following are specifically desirable:

  • Experience with TypeScript
  • Experience with Python and modern backend frameworks, especially FastAPI (with Pydantic and Uvicorn)
  • Experience designing and building RESTful APIs
  • Experience with React for frontend development, ideally with Material UI and Vite
  • Experience with Docker, AWS ECS (Fargate), and infrastructure-as-code using AWS CDK
  • Experience with cloud providers, AWS is preferred
  • Experience with data warehousing and analytics, especially Snowflake and dbt
  • Experience with databases including SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and cloud data platforms
  • Experience with micro-service enterprise architecture, cross-platform integration, and building scalable applications in heterogeneous environments
  • Experience with the software development lifecycle process from build, software configuration, change control, and release and deployment activities
  • Strong relational database skills including database design and optimization
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills with a solid analytical background
  • Excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and facilitation skills

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Full-stack web application programming
  • JavaScript / TypeScript
  • Python (FastAPI, Pydantic, Pandas)
  • React (with Material UI, built via Vite)
  • Relational Database and SQL Programming, prefer PostgreSQL or MySQL
  • Snowflake and dbt for data warehousing and transformation
  • REST APIs and other web service backend technologies
  • AWS infrastructure
  • AWS Services, such as ECS (Fargate), Lambda, S3, SQS/SNS, CloudFront, ECR, EFS, Secrets Manager, and Redshift
  • Infrastructure-as-code with AWS CDK (TypeScript)
  • Docker and container-oriented technologies
  • CI / CD, specifically GitLab CI
  • Automated testing with pytest, Vitest, and Playwright
  • Identity and integration platforms such as Okta (SSO), Jira, and Slack
  • Quality Assurance Mindset; Nice to have: familiarity with regulated environment
