Job description

J.F. Brennan Company (Brennan) is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead large-scale marine and heavy civil infrastructure projects throughout the greater New England region. This position is based out of our North Kingstown, Rhode Island office and will support projects across the region. The Senior Project Manager will oversee the successful execution of complex marine construction projects performed on, below, and over water, including deep foundations, bridge construction, dock and barge terminal structures, dam construction, and railroad infrastructure.
We are seeking a proven marine infrastructure leader with extensive experience managing high-risk, technically demanding projects involving marine logistics, heavy civil operations, and public infrastructure contracts.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide oversight for multiple marine and heavy civil infrastructure projects
  • Lead project teams in the planning and execution of deep foundation systems, pile driving operations (land and over water), cofferdams, sheet piling, bridge structures, dam construction, dock structures, barge terminals, and railroad infrastructure
  • Maintain full financial accountability for assigned projects, including cost control, forecasting, productivity tracking, and margin protection to ensure projects meet or exceed financial performance targets
  • Proactively identify cost risks and implement corrective strategies to keep projects aligned with approved budgets and schedules
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and update detailed project schedules to support successful project execution.
  • Capability to collaborate with project managers, field teams, and stakeholders to ensure schedules remain accurate and aligned with project objectives.
  • Lead contract administration including change management, claims mitigation, and negotiations with owners and subcontractors
  • Review and approve submittals, engineered lift plans, marine work plans, and critical path schedules
  • Mentor and develop project management staff
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with public and private owners including DOTs, USACE, PUDs, rail authorities, port authorities, and municipal agencies
  • Support and actively contribute to business development efforts by identifying new project opportunities, assisting with strategic pursuits, participating in client meetings, and supporting estimating and proposal development
  • Collaborate with leadership on bid strategy, constructability reviews, pricing risk evaluation, and pursuit planning
  • Travel to active job sites up to 80% based on project requirements

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience managing marine or heavy civil infrastructure projects (commercial or residential construction experience alone is not sufficient)
  • Demonstrated leadership experience on projects involving:
    • Bridge substructures and superstructures
    • Dam construction or rehabilitation
    • Dock and barge terminal facilities
    • Railroad infrastructure and rail bridge work
    • Deep foundation systems and pile-supported structures
  • Strong working knowledge of marine construction methods and work performed from floating platforms
  • Experience managing public infrastructure contracts with complex regulatory and safety requirements
  • Advanced understanding of project management control systems including scheduling (Primavera P6 or MS Project), cost control, procurement, and value engineering
  • Proven ability to lead large teams in technically challenging marine environments
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and executive-level reporting skills
