Job description

Position Summary

The Senior Application Engineer – Product Information Management (PIM) is responsible for the technical administration, support, integration, enhancement, and delivery of enterprise PIM platforms. This role serves as the primary IT owner for PIM applications and associated integrations, ensuring data quality, platform stability, system performance, and alignment with business objectives. The ideal candidate possesses hands‑on experience implementing and supporting PIM solutions in a complex retail environment and understands how product data supports Merchandising, eCommerce, Supply Chain, Marketing, Digital Assets, and Store Operations. This individual will partner closely with business stakeholders while maintaining primary accountability for the technical health, architecture, and evolution of the platform.

Application Engineering & Support

Serve as the technical owner for enterprise PIM applications and related technologies. Provide Level 2 and Level 3 application support, troubleshooting complex system, integration, and data issues. Manage application upgrades, patches, configurations, and platform releases. Monitor application performance, availability, and data processing activities. Configure workflows, business rules, user roles, permissions, and system settings. Develop and maintain technical documentation, support procedures, and knowledge base articles. Participate in on‑call support and production issue resolution as needed.

Solution Delivery

Lead technical implementation and enhancement projects for PIM platforms. Translate business requirements into technical designs and solution specifications. Collaborate with architects, developers, vendors, and infrastructure teams to implement scalable solutions. Support project planning, testing strategies, deployment activities, and release management. Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product data quality and operational efficiency.

Integration & Data Management

Design, support, and troubleshoot integrations between the PIM platform and: ERP Systems eCommerce Platforms Marketplace Solutions Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Systems Digital Asset Management (DAM) Platforms Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) Merchandising Systems Data Warehouse and Analytics Platforms Supplier Data Sources. Support APIs, ETL processes, event‑driven integrations, middleware, and file‑based interfaces. Analyze and resolve complex data synchronization and interface failures. Ensure data integrity, governance, and consistency across enterprise systems. Collaborate with business data stewards to improve product data quality and standards.

Technical Analysis & Troubleshooting

Perform root cause analysis and permanently resolve recurring application issues. Troubleshoot data, workflow, integration, and performance‑related problems. Partner with infrastructure, cloud, database, and security teams to support enterprise application requirements. Lead incident management, problem management, and change management activities following ITIL best practices. Identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiencies.

Vendor & Cross‑Functional Collaboration

Act as the primary technical liaison with PIM software vendors and implementation partners. Coordinate vendor support tickets, escalations, and enhancement requests. Work closely with Merchandising, eCommerce, Marketing, Supply Chain, and Product Content teams to understand evolving business needs. Provide technical consultation regarding platform capabilities, best practices, and future roadmap opportunities. Participate in architecture reviews and technology governance processes.

Required QualificationsEducation

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Experience

10+ years supporting enterprise applications in a retail, eCommerce, or distribution environment. 7+ years implementing, administering, or supporting Product Information Management (PIM) platforms. Proven experience delivering complex system integrations and managing enterprise application support. Experience supporting SaaS and/or cloud‑based applications in a large‑scale enterprise environment.

Technical Skills

Experience with one or more PIM platforms such as: Stibo Systems STEP Salsify Informatica PIM Syndigo Similar enterprise PIM solutions. Strong knowledge of: SQL and relational databases REST APIs and web services ETL and data integration technologies Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud environments XML, JSON, CSV, and product data structures Data quality and governance concepts Application monitoring and support tools DevOps, CI/CD, and release management practices ITIL processes and service management.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in retail, sporting goods, outdoor retail, or omni‑channel commerce environments. Experience integrating PIM platforms with ERP, PLM, DAM, eCommerce, and marketplace solutions. Knowledge of GS1 standards, product taxonomy, digital content management, and item onboarding processes. Experience with Power BI, Azure Data Factory, MuleSoft, Boomi, or other enterprise integration technologies. ITIL Foundation, Cloud Platform, or PIM‑related certifications.
