Senior Director, Risk Management - GPN Payment Success & Ecosystem Integrity

As a Senior Director of Risk Management at Capital One, you will apply your leadership and analytical skills to our highest-profile Risk Management projects. You will act as an enterprise thought leader, partnering with Executives and lines of business in an open, collaborative environment to drive organizational change, transform risk controls, and protect Capital One's continued stability and brand reputation. In this role, you will specifically focus on building our Payment Success Program and creating strategic programs to drive transactional health across our ecosystem, including fraud mitigation, authorizations, and disputes. You will directly lead and expand a high-performing team of Risk and Payment Specialists, equipping them to act as empowered stewards of the network's long-term resilience.

Senior Directors in Risk Management are highly motivated professionals with exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills. They maintain significant exposure across lines of business and collaborate directly with Executive leadership to pioneer cutting-edge solutions, govern data ecosystems, and proactively mitigate threats to the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Payment Success & Transactional Health: Build and lead the Payment Success Program, establishing operational performance standards and strategic initiatives that optimize transactional health across fraud, authorizations, and disputes.

  • Intelligent Brand Protection & Payment Success: Lead the charge in neutralizing deceptive activities by deploying cutting-edge detection technologies and AI-augmented monitoring, acting as a high-tech guardian of the organization's reputation and consumer safety. Set robust operational performance standards that preserve trust, minimize exceptions, and ensure high degrees of successful payment outcomes.

  • Ecosystem Trust & Brand Protection: Secure Capital One's global payment network against malicious abuse and deceptive activities by deploying AI-augmented monitoring, intelligence-driven risk controls, and robust security standards.

  • Strategic Advisory & Executive Governance: Serve as a trusted advisor to GPN Executives, translating complex risk data into strategic insights that safeguard the Global Payment Network and empower confident decision-making.

  • Resilient Partner Lifecycles: integrate transactional health information into a holistic lifecycle management strategy for network participants

  • Driving Payment Innovation: Establish best in class practices and optimization protocols to help participants achieve elite portfolio performance. Serve as an intel and ideation engine for revenue driving consulting opportunities and Value Added Services for GPN.

  • Cross-Functional & Analytical Innovation: Foster a collaborative movement combining data science and human ingenuity to solve complex network challenges and build a unified front in global ecosystem defense. Define metrics, build single sources of truth, and cultivate insights for internal and external audiences

  • Team Scaling & Leadership: Recruit, mentor, and grow a world-class team of 15-20 professionals, fostering a culture of technical mastery, mutual accountability, and operational efficiency.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or military experience

  • At least 7 years of experience in Risk Management

  • At least 3 years experience in Operations Management

  • At least 3 years experience in Project Management

  • At least 3 years experience in People Management


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in Business Management, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics or Project Management

  • At least 10 years of experience in Risk Management or Governance

  • Business Process Management certification (internal Capital One certification) Six Sigma Lean, Green Belt or Black Belt certification, Agile Coach certification, Compliance Certification (CRCM)

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $238,700 - $272,400 for Sr. Director, Risk Management


New York, NY: $260,400 - $297,200 for Sr. Director, Risk Management


Richmond, VA: $217,000 - $247,700 for Sr. Director, Risk Management

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
