Department Overview:
The Lab at LeConte Medical Center is a rewarding place to work. The skilled team of Sr. Lab Assistants, Lab Assistants, MTs, and MLTs work together to provide all laboratory services to LeConte patients in a timely manner. In this department, the staff is focused and goal-driven to provide accurate and sufficient results for the people they serve.
Position Summary:
The Manager of the Laboratory will facilitate lab operations by providing such guidance and support to licensed and unlicensed clinical lab employees as they should require; ensures competent and adequate levels of staffing and act as a liaison between the lab and other departments. Establishes good physician relationship to meet physician needs related to lab operations.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain current knowledge of changes in regulatory (i.e CLIA, the Joint Commission) and technological activity in the lab field which might affect goals and activities of the lab or LeConte Medical Center.
  • Plan and implement long range goals of the lab consistent with the vision and mission of LeConte Medical Center.
  • Plan, monitor and control both operating and capital budgets.
  • Coordinate quality assurance and improvement projects and initiate new projects as needed.
  • Coordinate continuing education programs for needs based instruction.
  • Establish realistic standards for quality and quantity of work for guidance of departmental productivity assessment.
  • Provide organizational support, equipment and facilities necessary for lab personnel to perform duties.
  • Provide for effective communication and interaction with other department personnel and physicians.
  • Provide for uniform understanding and consistent administration and implementation of policies and procedures of hospital and department.
  • Supervise lab supervisor(s) in performance of their duties.
  • Provide adequate channels of upward communication for lab employees.
  • Ensure continuing education and personal communication for lab employees.
  • Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
  • Attends and serves on professional/civic service organizations as hospital representative.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Lab Science.
Minimum Experience:
Five (5) years' recent (within two (2) years) clinical lab experience; general management experience required.
Licensure Requirement:
Tennessee State Licensed Supervisor and Med Tech License. Proficiency in using Excel, Microsoft Word, Power-Point, and other computer programs for laboratory data compilation preferred.
